Diesel misinformation
We've had this discussion a few times but many people are going with the prevailing narrative that diesels are bad but the evidence and the technology doesn't support that. This was in this months Bmw magazine that came through the post:

I am afraid the UK government has all but Killed the diesel car, in Favor of the Electric box of which sales are FALLING even as I write, people need to wake up, Co2 levels are now the highest since 2014 due to petrol car sales going UP.
Electric just will not work due to many factors, Hydrogen would be the best way forward IMO. I will resist Electric till Petrol runs out personally. Nothing wrong with the latest Diesel cars they are clean. This government has it's head up it's arse.

In the news in the last couple of days that Bosch have developed technology to reduce box very significantly (like 90%) so diesel may not have had its day yet....
Haven't got the article to hand though |

Diesel is far from dead, particularly when you consider mpg of new diesels. Government has taken action on old dirty diesels and new petrols & diesels from 2032. So there's nothing to say new diesels will be treated differently between now and 2032.

The Government are knee jerk reactionists who have no real direction regarding transport policy whatsoever. Most state type services rely on diesel yet they insist on undermining diesels whilst forgetting that the alternatives are co2 rich or simply P11D tax dodgers. Further luxury hybrids tend to be more likely to cross into the £40k tax bracket so get hammered despite their potential low city emissions. May as well buy a sub £40k V8 Mustang. Those allegedly in charge are hypocrites without a clue. End of rant.

yes reaction to diesel does seem to be knee jerk.
I considered petrol for my current 5 because it was looking I was going to be penalised for driving locally (I only live 200 yards from the proposed ultra low emissions zone in London) and really didn't want to have to pay £10 or whatever it was just to turn right at the end of my road rather than nothing if I turned left. As I've mentioned on another thread, whilst I'm not against electric, at the moment it simply doesn't work for everybody. I'm thinking those in Flats, terraced streets where they cannot plug in a car over night. The local councils are not going to put charging points outside every terraced house, it will simply cost too much. You can't have a cable from your car trailing over the pavement to your house, that's not going to work either. So unless you are able to charge a car up in 5 minutes, it's not going to work for these people, who are a considerable percentage of the population. I am surprised hydrogen fuel cells haven't caught on, you could fill those up like you do with petrol or diesel today. Ok it needs a lot of infrastructure to support it, but hey it was managed ok with petrol and diesel? I guess support for diesel will depend upon each government and I'm clueless as to where we going here in the UK. the confusion has stalled sales, diesel is down something like 30-40% this year alone. you can't blame people for putting off or going petrol. |

I guess it's up to people to be a voice and not just suck up the tripe that govt or agenda-driven-media push out...
Hopefully article and noise like this will make a difference. Only thing worse than not doing anything for the environment is to misdirect ones efforts!

Often the case in UK politics: febrile, volatile and devoid of fact.
It's almost unreal that an x5 30d is available on PCP with massive deposit contributions and 0% Apr !!
