Radar Detector Hardwire
I recently acquired a 2019 540i and I'd like to hardwire my Escort MAX 360 so that it powers on/off with the vehicle. Does anyone have information on how I can tap into the wiring up above the rearview mirror to achieve this?
I also have a 2013 335i in which I did it. I'm just not sure how similar the wiring under the cover might be and was hoping to find some information before I started. |

Here you go….just did it the other day. The power to the radar detector will turn off after about 6 min when the car it turned off
Make sure this is the right connector for the escort 360. I believe the RJ-11 is correct MTX-1015, RJ-11, 15" Long Overall... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L2SVV2U...p_mob_ap_share Here are the wires to tap. I used the thickest tap. .. |

Awesome... thank you 2022M550i! I happened to run across another thread last night that also included the video which is from tonydt1g3r. It's exactly what I was looking for and is the same basic method that I used to wire my 335 over 5 years ago This post shows the details of that installation. Note that I make my own hardwires which saves me some money. Though I also found this one which is a set of 3 cords, each with different sized pins, and only costs $15 as of this posting.

Here are some pictures of my installation. I used a black 4-wire telephone cable that I had sitting around. I stripped the ends a little over an inch long and then folded half of it back, essentially doubling-up it up. The doubled-up, thicker wire went in with a little finess and held better. I then jammed the end of a toothpick in there and broke it off. It probably sounds like a hack but it helped secure the wires in place and the wood is non-conductive. I then secured my wire to one running to the plug. That'll hold everything together and prevent against my wire ripping out in case the radar detector fell off the windshield. Notice that I ran the wire through one of the holes in the trim piece which made for a nice, professional-looking job.
