I've tried a few times and every time I try to play video on USB via the center console it doesn't work... I get the audio through just fine but no video...

Did you follow the extra steps in Bimmercode ? I believe you have to toggle off something else for it to work properly.

Wifi, bluetooth and carplay must be turned off to perform...

Are they playing when not in motion and when you drive off it goes dark, as it should? Or is video from media just not playing at all. Have you tried a DVD?

To perform what? If he is using a Bluetooth Adapter, none of these need to be turned off. If he is using a WiFi adapter, you have to put an iPhone in Airplane Mode and turn off Carplay on the phone before using Bimmercode.

No video even when parked and stopped

Haven't tried a dvd

I'm using an android device and obdlink mx I think.

It can code other functions just fine, only the VIM seems to not work

Did it play video while stopped before you tried coding video in motion? If so, did you do the extra step that Bimmercode instructed you to as HerkHealer mentioned? It's been a while since I coded it, but you have to move the iDrive wheel around per instructions on the screen. If you can't confirm it played before, then you should code the extra codecs for video files on a USB. This coding is in the same area as video in motion on Bimmercode.

Start with trying a DVD stopped and in motion. That will narrow it down.

Sorry, I didn't realize this comment was from you, the original poster. Since you are using an Android and a BT adapter, you should not have to kill Apple CarPlay or do anything else with Bimmercode other than plug your adapter in. You can shut off wifi though to be safe.

I've never tried to play video before coding the function in (either while moving or stopped) so that is mistake number one and something I can't really go back to verify unfortunately

I don't recall there being an option to choose in codec anywhere but I'll try and look again

Not sure, and I dont remember the extra steps involved to enable the live video, but I have Android phone vs Apple, so i think its much easier to do this.
The one thing I did not like on Android live video was that it only played 2/3 of the I Drive screen ..........but there was a quick solution to that to get it 100% filled. Now its nice to watch anything while driving.

Yes, this is the extra step. Put a DVD in and if it plays video in motion, then it's definitely the Bimmercode simple mode coding to enable additional video codecs. I'll help you find it once you try a DVD.
