Anyone seen engine wear like this?

Looking at buying a 2019 520D with 68,000KM (42000 Miles) on it, this is at a Toyota dealer with a 1 year warranty.
It drives fine and engine seems good but just concerned about the wear\damage to the insulation\padding shown below.
Can't see any wear or moving parts near this.
Just wondering if anybody has seen anything like this?

If there is an open hole on the Intake Manifold, dont even think of buying it.
That's crazy.

The fault highlighted is on the engine heat/sound encapsulation. Looks as if it has been damaged due to some 'clumsy' work on the engine, or possibly rodent damage.

HighlandPete, that's what I was thinking - a greedy rat Maybe!!
But if it was clumsy work should that make me more concerned?
I am guessing that shouldn't need to be removed for any regular Max or Mini service.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Yeah, I'd guess a mouse or something.

My guess is a mouse or rat as well.

Let’s hope the little bugger didn’t take any nips out of some wires

Yes I think a rat is the most likely and a few people have also mentioned to me about danger of them chewing the wiring.
I hadn't noticed a second smaller damaged area behind the main one which makes me more convinced its rats or mice.
It's a shame because it's a lovely well spec'd 520D but I am not going to go for it now.

Assuming there isn't any other rodent damage else where I wouldn't let this scare you away. It looks like something that is easily replaced.
