The car needs to be insured itself, not the driver. Could be a family member, a business, etc.

Ah ok
I’n the U.K. I’d be very surprised if anyone under the age of 25 could even get insuarance on a car like that, and even so it would be quite expensive

If the driver and the car owner are related and live together, and the car is in the same house, the driver absolutely has to be insured WITH the car.

Anyway, this is some rich international student, @wsq_m5 on IG.

Canadians on Reddit are saying it's common for rich a-holes like this to simply pay the bail and flee the country. If that's true then it's even more frustrating.

Could also be weed, etc. But yeah.. 5am on a Monday and you're impaired? Willing to bet he's a student or similar, parents live in another country. All too common in the GTA.

Money and Politics will make this all go away.
As it always does with people who have enough to pay.

Our insane government has implemented a bail system that basically puts anyone back on the street within hours and lessens charges for people of “visible minority” groups. The number of repeat offenders here is absolutely ridiculous as a result.

If it really is an international student it wouldn’t surprise me if they already have their flight booked.

A 19 year old student driving a car like that comes from lots of money. I hope this was just a tragic accident, but the story is leaning towards a drunk rich kid with no respect for others, or the system, and questionable parenting.

Just horrible. Notice the roof box? Strange to see a roof box on top of a $160,000 Comp but kind of goes along with the Rich kid 19 year old thing. It may as well be a Camry to him.

He has no respect for his mother or me. He's a hardcore racist (Jews are responsible for all the ills of the world) and sexist (the only purpose of a woman is to bare babies and like a slave, serve her husband) and we can't have a civil conversation about anything. He readily admits that he wasn't raised to be the person he has become.

So, it ain't always the parents.

gotta blame the world. it takes a village to raise a kid. who served the 19 year old alcohol? if he got a fake id where did he get it from? which friend told him to take the last shot? which social media got him to do what he got to do? who did the marketing to get him to the last bar? could have been the same outcome even if he was driving a corolla.

I hear you and believe me that with a 7yo daughter I often have nightmares of all the "friends" and influences I can't control which surely would devolve into "bad parenting" comments... but this kid's background doesn't match that. You wouldn't reward a bad son with a brand new $150k car. "But perhaps it wasn't his car, but instead he grabbed the keys in secret, went out to get wasted and killed an innocent pedestrian" some would say... His Instagram account suggests otherwise (car meets, photoshoots, etc.). It's been his car for a while, or at least one from a pool of cars the family owns.

So his parents are very much to blame in this particular instance. When you don't have to earn things, you have no limits and nobody says no to you, this is what happens.

One thing I drilled into my kids was be careful picking their friends as they will have a HUGE influence on them. My daughter did well; my son, apparently, did not.

I am also a intel student in trt. Only 500$ per month for my m8, also my first car. So I guess insurance is not a problem for him. But I guess this mtfk was way too aggressive and turn dsc off which cause the accident.

true, I just saw the video of that guy driven before, very good drifting skill and can control the car very well. But alcohol took the skill away...
