HUD margine reflection!!!
Hiya fellas.
Was in the carwash yesterday and ofcourse it was brushless wash. But then when i dried off and started to drive, I noticed that the outer margin of the glass covering the HUD is reflecting on the windshield, and it is not nice. Once I noticed it now, i cant take my eyes off it. I am pretty sure it was not like that. Or i didnt notice it before??? |

it's the same on the F10. You can see the surrounding of the HUD , more depending upon where the light is coming from.
You do get used to it. Same goes for the speaker in the centre of the dash.(unnecessary in my opinion) It was most noticable to me coming from an E39 where there was no reflections at all.(Sorry I know but the E39 was very good in a lot of ways!) So sounds like same issue present in the G30 , does the same go for the Idrive enclosure and the speaker grill? |

My car does the same thing when sun hits it. Wear polarized sunglasses and can't see HUD at all but 2 inch glare is still there. Week of driving the car, I got used to the glare.

look on your windshield where the hud is on a sunny day. you will notice a 2 inch line that reflects sun in windshield. Nothing wrong with windshield, HUD/design issue.

but that is the whole point about polarization , it is designed to remove reflections which is exactly how a HUD works. so no surprise that most if not all of it is not visible.
just means your sunglasses have to be non polarizing. |

Let's face it it's lame they can't make it work with polarised lenses. Also makes it lame for the uk where we have wet roads and low sun. The test drive I did hud was amazing, so I might just need to keep 2 sets of glasses in the car from now on.

I can't see how they can
the HUD work by reflecting an image off the windscreen (well combining 2 images off the pvc layer inbetween the 2 layers of glass). polarizing glasses by their nature remove reflections hence it will cancel out most if not all of that reflected image. physics. |

Not entirely true.
Polarized glasses let one polarization of light through. LCD displays emit polarized light. So a car with a fully digital LCD dash needs to emit that with the same polarization tgat glasses let through. Same goes for a HUD except it is a reflection. Depending on how the reflective layer works it can preserve, reverse or disperse the polarization of the HUD. |

UPDATE!!!
ok... i had my car in for hard waxing. i also asked for leather protection and told them about the reflection. they cleaned the HUD screen cover and the reflection is gone.. it was that a line of dust had collected and was causing the reflection.. will let you know if it comes back...
