I'm all Italian (Sicilian). If you are familiar with Mass, Caddy's are prevalent in the North Shore, I am a South Shore guy now living in the North Shore. Lot's of Caddy's. Vettes carry the same Stigma. I guess similar in many ways to today's ricer profile - slammed, tatted up, flat brim hat maybe backwards, aftermarket christmas type lighting, etc. Am I judgemental, hell yeah.

But this is one mean car for the same price as an M550 and $30k less than an M5 with weaker performance specs. If the M550 came with 3 pedals, I would definitely consider it. If only I could get over the stigma, aka snobbery.

I’ve got plenty of “redneck” in me, as we’d say down here. I like the nostalgia of American muscle. I loved Camaros when I was a kid. I’d have taken a Camaro over a Vette, so that probably tells you something.

I have a soft spot for Cadillac. But when I think Cadillac, I think BIG. Big ass sedan with a V8 that drinks gas and rides like a dream. They don’t really do that anymore. CT6 was a cool car, I think. Discontinued, obviously. A 2019 CT6-V will still run in the $70k+ range if it’s in good shape with low miles. I would have considered it more, but between the price and my boredom with GM I just didn’t have the appetite. The Germans had more cars that fit the bill and I could digest losing a couple cylinders to go German but not to stick with GM. Well… now I’m still driving German but I got those two cylinders back. Haha.

As has been stated, one of the biggest drawbacks to Cadillac is that from a service and parts perspective, it’s still a Chevy. Too much interior commonality with all the GM SUVs I’d had and was trying to get away from. I had a great service guy at my Chevy dealer and a good relationship with the sales manager. But the BMW experience is certainly more high end and comfortable.

All that to say… I still admire a big beautiful Cadillac sedan. Unfortunate that they’re basically out of that business. They should have a sedan counterpart to the Escalade. There really is no American competition to the 7 series, S class, or R7/R8. Really a sad reality. This is America, damnit! If you can’t be big and gaudy here, then what the hell are we doing?! Ha

Tru dat.

I'm with you guys, old enough to remember when a Cadillac was something special, all that extra chrome, the big soft seats, ridiculously over-sized V8 with truckloads of torque, quiet as a church and as comfortable as a living room sofa. That, to me, still today, is the definition of a luxury car.

Which is what is nice about their magneride suspension, the cars are (can be) comfortable but now they can handle somewhat decently.

I'm guessing that you all got your car passion the same way I did, from my Dad. He loved cars and I loved shopping for them with him. By the age of 5 I could tell you what every car on the road was at a glance without seeing the badge, of course it was pretty much all big three back then.

My snobbery judgemental sarcastic post aside, I loved my Dad's Cadillac's, Lincoln's and Buick's. The big soft living room seating. The top ride quality back then was the less you can feel the road the better, soft with easiest steering. Exhaust? Forget about it, my Dad would test drive cars and he would sit at a light and remark on how you could not even hear the car. Car's back then were too big for the small garages.

As I hit my early teens and grew independant in my ideal car, I would always hangout with the high school guys who would work on their cars in the driveway. Some of my favorites were the Cougar XR7, Pontiac Grand Prix, Ford Torino....everyone had headers, goodrich TA's with white lettering and an aftermarket system with two (yes only two) 16*9 Jenson's in the rear deck that somehow sounded excellent.

But my favorite car was also the Camaro. My first car was a 1976 Camaro. I bought it when I was 15 before I had my license with my paper route money. Unfortunately, it was only a straight 6 and I totalled it 6 months after getting my license. Hit a telephone pole and it shattered from all the bondo on the body as the beer cans rolled out onto the street and the cops just gave me a ride home.

If I hit one of those big lotteries, I shit you not, I would live on Bring a Trailer and buy mucles cars, classic cars, 1970's station wagons, etc. as well as Porsche's, Ferrari's, BMW's, Maclaren's, etc.

I love cars.

To be honest, my new X5 is more expensive at the moment by about 20 g's, but like your wifes caddy, it's the car I don't care about. It's the car I reluctantly have made peace with myself about people not kicking their shoes off before getting in. The car where no one has to roll their eyes at me when looking for the perfect parking space. The car I don't care about valeting. Same goes for work, as much as I like to drive it in the spring and fall, why let it sit collecting pollen in the spring at work when I have the QX60 for that. Why put 20-25 miles a day on it to sit in traffic each way if I don't have to.

So to answer your question, ME, I struggle with this dilemma all the time. We have issues.

I don't have issues with putting miles on my cars, but I do have issues with the majority of drivers nowadays distracted...chronically driving off the road and kicking stones all over the place...bouncing off the hood of my car.

I still gots the snaps, crackles and pops. However, when I start it, it doesn't start with vigor as it used to. It used to rev quick and crackle on the start. Doesn't do that anymore.

Yes lack of vigor is a good description.

Oh if I were accumulating cars the way I do in the daydream I have daily, there would be a showroom quality garage for all my cars.

See I was going to say something out of pocket. Most likely would've ended up getting banded. So, I'll keep my mouth shut

Had some time to kill before my shearing (haircut). Bmw dealership across the street so I went there. Had the abomination xm there. Not better in person, still ugly, just like the m3/4. Unlike the lci m5 i saw on the way over there that was noice. First time seeing one in the wild. Wanna say it was Brewster green but not too sure. I gave him the Tesla/Prius business (downshifted and cranked passed him with everything in sport mode).

I like the M4 for what it is. I think they should’ve left the M3 looking like a 3.

XM is interesting but I don’t know who the target is for it. One of the SA’s at the dealer today said the one there is loud as shit.

Brewster green is my favorite green, I think. I bet that car was beautiful. I hope it had caramel or tartufo interior.
