New M550i 'stuck' at port awaiting modules

Anyone else experiencing this?
Original promise date was last week of Sept-21.
Car is in limbo awaiting various electronics modules (due to chip shortage).
No new ETA.

I'd love to have my new M550i, but given the global issue around chips, it's not a only BMW issue.

Anyone with any insight as to how cars at port are prioritized or ranked for the installation of missing modules?

Are you talking about the port in Baltimore....the VPC? How did you discover that it was awaiting various modules?

What options did you order? I also have an M550 ordered that is currently waiting for a ship in Bremerhaven. There appears to be no open issues with it.

Yes, at the VPC.

Was told this by my sales advisor.

Am working to verify via an old friend who works for BMW NA.

FYI: there was no issue hinted at as the vehicle left port in Europe.

Ordered vehicle with pretty much all options except for massage seats and sound system.

I suspect your friend who works for BMWNA can provide you with better info than anyone here.

From history, the VPC will prioritize cars based on sales status (Priority 1 is a customer ordered car and these are typically high priority). They will also prioritize cars based on how long they've been sitting at VPC. So, this all depends on what parts are backordered, time frame to deliver them to the VPC and in some cases if a procedure document needs to be written to assist the VPC with the refitting of missing parts.

I am very curious about what modules the OPs car is missing. I have a 550 waiting for a ship and according to the website I listed above and the genius I spoke with today, my car is complete and needs nothing.

It is possible that some specific options like the dynamic handling package could have modules that need to be retrofitted at VPC. I didn't order that.

You're not in the clear until the car is released to carrier at the vpc. Keep your fingers crossed for no hold ups.

Don't worry. Many vehicles are sailing through with no big delays.

RAM Delay

My 2022 m550i has been sitting in Port of New Jersey since October 12th.
Waiting for receiver audio module. Hard to tell what the process is as cars that arrived in the US later than mine appear to have been delivered. Guessing this has to do with the vagaries of the supply chain for chips. My car was ordered August 12th.

Spoke with my BMW NA friend and he told me my car is waiting on modules for the stereo system (base) and cameras.
He was able to give me some good estimates based on his visibility … back to waiting.

If you put your VIN in this link, does it indicate the issue? Just want to confirm the accuracy of the site.....

Yes it does (thanks for that URL).

At this point that URL indicates that the camera module *has* been installed (status is "closed") and that the only thing my car is waiting on is the stereo module (status is "open").

To reiterate, my car has the base audio package.

RAM Install Status Change

Possibly some good news. Status of RAM install changed from "open to closed" today.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks for this post. The link and confirmation that missing parts show up on it with their status gives me some peace of mind that my car won't be waiting for anything once it finally gets stateside…. Arrived at beemer heaven today, hoping it goes out on the ship without too much delay

At the dealer.

After arriving at the Port of NJ on October 12 and awaiting install of RAM, my M550i has finally arrived at the dealer.

Success!

It appears that my modules have been installed.
Next step, getting the vehicle from port to my dealership via carrier.
