2022 BMW 550i - Please advise

Dear forum members:

I am considering a 2022 M550i with about 12k miles. Car seems to be in good condition overall, from all the information provided by the dealer. One concern is that it only seems to be priced about $5k below what a 2023 build would be with similar features. I feel that it should be priced lower, since the depreciation should be more than that given the mileage.

Any comments and advise on pricing would be appreciated!

Also, what else should I be looking for/asking about as I research the car and try to make a decision? Carfax looks fine. Single owner lease, which was terminated because dealer says guy wanted to buy a house and had an unfavorable debt ratio. The warranty is stamped starting 09/2021. So 12 K miles have been added in 8 months.

Dealer is out of town hence it will involve going over and picking it up. I guess my other question is, will my local, in town dealer service the car within warranty period with as much diligence, and is this a concern? Should I ask for any checks and maintenance etc to be done by the dealer selling prior to final decision/purchase?

Don't want to overlook anything, as make this important decision. And your advise is much appreciated.

Thank you.

For $5000 more, I would almost rather have the new one. This way you can break it in properly and you know it was broken in properly.

With respect to the dealership, yes your local dealership will have no issue servicing it… Honestly they don't care where you bought it from.

Since the car is basically new, I would look over all of the panels to make sure there was no paint work done. Make sure the guy had the service done, I would prefer to see oil changes done at 5000 mile intervals. I know they say change it at 10, but I would want to see it done at 5000 miles. Look at all the service records if there are any

I agree to go new, however MY23 production begins in July. Have you seen an order guide for MY23? Are you prepared to wait? Could take 4-6 months to get a MY23.

In this climate, I would be more compelled to get a brand new spanking one with zero miles.

Lightly used/used car prices are insane. On a vehicle of this price, I would swing the extra few thousand and enjoy the new car smell.

Pay a trusted mechanic $200-$300 for a complete inspection and put it on a lift.

I came across that exact car about a week and a half ago. I decided to go with a new M550i order instead, for the reasons you state. Of course, I have no idea how long this order will take. It was placed last Tuesday, so I have an order number, but that's it. I'm worried it will bump into a '23 model.

Here's a wrench in the works...

If the 2022 is CPO you'll get a 5 year, unlimited mileage warranty. The factory warranty will still expire at 50K miles, then the CPO will kick-in.

It's only $5,000 less because it will take you 6 months to get a new one on order and the dealer knows it. Some people don't want to wait. There is a very small chance you can put your name on one from a dealer allocation that's in production, but this is rare with M550's in this climate. If you can wait, I agree with others, order it and get everything you want and also what you don't want.

Joe, I'm curious (sorry, I'm a newb here, so this is probably obvious). I put money down on an order last Friday. I got the sheet from the dealer, and it shows they actually placed it Friday, based on the spec I sent them that day. The sheet he gave me has a status of 111. I called the 844 number this morning and they said that it shows as having originally been scheduled for week 18, which is a couple of weeks before I ordered, but that now it is waiting to be rescheduled. I'm wondering if I got lucky as you suggest here, and I was able to grab an allocation that was in production. Though if it is now waiting to be rescheduled, I guess I'm probably just back in the queue.

Definitely buy new. That's high mileage in 8 months. Probably all highway, but wow. My 2020 M550 has just over 12k on it.

I'm probably not the best source for question on ordering and the logistics of the tracking process as I have never ordered a BMW (just one Audi). I pick from inventory and almost always go CPO unless I am leasing and I don't lease anymore, but when I did I picked from inventory.

But I do know from reading and following peoples order here are that in the current environment, the communications can be unreliable until you have a VIN and it's on the boat.

Do you have a VIN?

My guess is you did not get lucky and the same exact allocation unit as the one you ordered fulfilled your order. I think you are looking at 6 months.

Yep and every week when you call in with your production number, your production week will be pushed back by 2 weeks. check out the pricing, ordering and tracking section. lots of good info there.
