Of course, if you have a lot of life insurance or your relationship with your wife isn't the best, this may not be a selling point.
Now that is FUNNY!
jealous…my dealer just quoted me $780 for an oil change and brake fluid flush… wtf

Good independent BMW service centers are priceless.

I was reading your comment "Sold my wife" and it stopped me in mid sentence thinking, I didn't even know that there was a market for such a thing. I gotta stop doing that and read the entire line.

I thought the M550 requires 11 quarts of oil.

It depends on the year. I think 2020+ increased the capacity. My 2018 called for 9.5qts.

780 for an oil change and brake fluid flush? Ridiculous. But I have that beat. My dealer estimated 580 for changing the 2 engine air filters. The dealers said the filters cost 150, but when I bought them at the parts counter, they were 76. Why is there a difference? 580-150 leaves 430 for labor. It's a 20 minute job. Therefore, the dealer is charging 1290 per hour for labor. Now that is ridiculous. Why are so many BMW dealers gouging their customers? I wish I could talk to a BMW representative face to face.

I bought the two filters for the M550i for $53.78 each. That was for genuine BMW parts. It took less than ten minutes to change them.

The cabin filters are a royal PITA to change.

Yes. You have to remove the panel under the dash (don't forget to disconnect the plug for the light). It's a cramped, dark space to try to work in, which adds to the difficulty of accessing these filters. Again, they can be purchased fairly inexpensively and will save you a lot over the dealer install cost.

Thanks. I was referring to the engine air filters. I assumed that is what you were referring to in the 10 minute install. Is this for the cabin filters? Were you talking about the cabin filters taking you 10 minutes?

Sorry, I misread your post thinking you were referring to the cabin filter comment. On the engine, they are as you describe. On my 2018 (may be different for newer models) M550i, you remove the engine cover and the two filter boxes have five or six screws that you remove. Lift the box covers just enough to pull the filters out and the put the new ones in. No need to disconnect the hoses. Reinstall the screws and the engine cover and that's it.

Got it and thanks again. If you could install those PIA cabin filters in 10 minutes, I would put you on a plane to my house, lol.

Wait, there’s one cabin air filter on each side of the car? Que?

The intake filters for the 2020+ takes a bit more work to get them swapped, but its nowhere near a $1200 job. You have to remove two front braces, and the intake tubing, then the covers, which one T screw is a bit of a pain to get out. I took my time and it probably took me 45 minutes. I could do it again in 20 to 30. Swapped my stock filters out with high flow BMC filters. Definitely made a difference in turbo and blowoff sound.

Ditto that on the 2020. I've never owned a car where the air filters are so hard to replace. I did the deed this past weekend and it took well over an hour. I ultimately wasn't able to disconnect the driver's side clean air pipe and had to perform some gymnastics to slide the new filter into the housing. I will have another go at it next time.

Over the weekend, I changed the oil and filter in my M550i at the 5000 mile interval. The oil was really dirty. I can't believe they recommend every 10000 miles.

Pretty easy task once you know where to lift the car to put jack stands underneath. Cost me roughly $120. My car took (10) quarts of oil.
