So I found that the light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the dash now registers it darker after the tint, so the dash and screen are dimmer during the day.

I can trick it by shining my iPhone light on it ... or if I roll the windows down it, it brightens back up.

Is there a way to override the automatic adjustment? I can't find an option in the menu and the manual adjustment wheel doesn't seem to help.

Did you tint your windshield, too? If so, how dark? ...and is that even legal in your state. For instance, in the state I live in it is not legal to apply any full windshield tint without a medical waiver.

You’ll have to ask the coding guys if there is a value that can be changed for the threshold of what the car determines as “night”
But it must be quite dark in inside I would have thought to be triggering this
There is no setting I’m aware of to keep the displays in the day mode so to speak

Yeah, this is an issue on all BMWs with iDrive 7. My 530i does it, and the 330i I had before my current car also had this issue. I haven't done any coding to try and fix the issue.

Yeah... I've been digging and finding I'm not alone and there's no easy fix. Kinda have to live with it. Not a huge deal, but not ideal.

PS. my tint isn't on the windshield or illegally dark. It's 35% on front windows.

That is so strange, I have my 2021 M550 tinted 35% on all the side windows and the back window (not the front windshield) and there is no issue …. Do you know where the sensor is ?

I read that it is my version of iDrive on the 2019 so may not be an issue for you.

As far as I can tell, the sensor is somewhere on the left side near light adjustment switch.

Tinting the front windshield is illegal in illinois except for factory tint. --Bob

Maybe it’s the type of tint???? I have 30% on everything but no windshield tint. No issues.

What year? It appears to be 2019 and earlier with iDrive.

OP: I have a 2019 and have the same issue. I have factory tints, meaning only the rear 3/4 is tinted.

Issue is intermittent but annoying. No idea if there is a reliable fix.

Before I added tint, and it was factory, I got the issue when I had my phone mount on the left side of the steering wheel.
I had forgotten about it until I added this tint and now it's back. fun. lol
