Standard LED Headlights?
Hey guys, just checking that I've been seeing the standard headlights around (pics attached) and these are supposed to be LED? They look like bi-xenons to me but I might be wrong.

They are LED but with projector lens- the others are the ICON LEDs with the newer style daytime running angel eyes. I prefer the newer style as I think the projectors now make them look like an older car but obviously just my opinion

As TopgearLA have said, those are standard LEDs not ICON lights. However, I prefer the standard LEDs. Only issue is that you can't get Adaptive lights without ICON lights.

The standard LEDs are still far ahead and clearly superior to the halogens I had in my E90.

Aside from the "retro" halogen indicator bulbs the standard LED headlights are fantastic. As bright as the xenons on my F30 and look the part with the Corona rings (which I slightly prefer to the ICON style)
The pics in the original post are of the standard LEDs

I concur, "standard" LED lights are very good, better then bi-xenons on F10, also they can be adaptive, in terms they move as your steering wheel moves, have them installed on my car
difference to ICON ones: - obviously shape is "old" bixenon like fashion, as i am weird I like it more - blinkers are old fashion on the side while ICON have them in line above main light, here i like more the new the way - does not have variable light distribution - does not have beam assist included, can be ordered separately Given standard lights performance, ICON are worth the price only in case their are included as standard in particular model, variable light distribution will be used often or new design is much preferred to old one, imho. Regarding variable light distribution function itself in real life, have to say i liked much more the Merc version than BMW one during the test, felt like one generation ahead to me. |

I have the basic projector led lights on mine and wanted to upgrade it to the adaptive led's. If I buy a pair from fleabay, is it swap / plug and play or would I need to buy modules and code it into the car? Also would I need to buy the rhd version I'd imagine.

Without beeing sure, I assume they would need coding. You can buy the Icon lights as an official retrofit kit from BMW. Partnumber is 63 13 2 455 650 and the price is aroudn 2600€.

Laughable that they still do halogen bulbs.
Audi do something similar, the front turn indicators are just like the ICON's but you've got to pay "extra" for the strobe effect.........but at least it's not HALOGEN!!!! |

You mean incandescent bulbs for the turn signals...

I've not upgraded the G31 as I have the ICON lights but on my F31 I did upgrade the brake and F/R turn signals to 50W CREE LED. I had to code out the warm/cold bulb checks & bulb = LED to prevent the flicking.

Exactly. Both Audi and Mercedes seem to be one generation ahead from BMW regarding adaptive lights. I ordered my 530e with adaptive and to be honest, the system is much inferior than other premium brands. I also own an Audi with matrix Led headlights from 2015 and it is much better than my 530e LCI, which is quite susprising.
