I'm sure there is a thread somewhere on this, so apologies if this is redundant.

What's you guys' opinions on repair vs replace a scraped up wheel? I've never had one repaired and no clue what questions to ask or how to tell who is good and who isn't.

Pictures included - I don't even know the model of the wheel, so if one of you does I would love to know! Thanks!

I had a similar scrape on my previous car and had it repaired by bmw. Afterwards I genuinely couldn't find evidence that there had been a scrape in the first place

This doesn't look like a serious scrape so I'd go for a repair.

Do you happen to remember what they charged you? I assume the dealer just has a 3rd party come and do the repair, similar to paintless dent repair, and charges a premium on top of it (or gets a wholesale price from the vendor). My reflex is to go find that 3rd party myself but maybe it would be easier to inquire with the dealer if they'll be accountable for the work.

I don't recall exactly but it wasn't much , less than £100.
Figure certainly wasn't a shock

I'm sure they do it often as I assume they have to do it with a lot of returned leases

It depends on where you’re located. Here in Texas they have mobile guys that will come out to you and repair it on site. Some tire places like discount tire also 3rd party it out. Cost pre Covid when I’ve had to have it done before 100-150. It may be more now who knows.

Yeah I called the local dealer. They have a guy come to them once a week and charge $175 for cosmetic repair. I'm assuming that's a little high and they've negotiated a wholesale rate with the vendor and then tossing a nice margin on it. But it's convenient and I know who to go back and west out if it's not done right.

Definitely have that repaired. It is minor and wait for some really bad damage before you buy a wheel.

You could have a guy come to your work or home and fix that for $100 bucks. Visually you won't be able to tell, but on my wheel, I can "feel" a difference in the texture on the repaired portion. I don't think the guy sanded it with a high enough grit count to finish it off smooth or he didn't polish it.

Appointment at the dealer is tomorrow. The other person I reached out to never got back to me. I figure I'm taking a $50ish hit by going to the dealer. They charge $185 and the guy comes to them every Thursday.

Good call. I used the dealer as well. I have wheel and tire insurance so I have no clue how much it cost. Even if I didn't, I think I would go through the dealer just for recourse. Plus you will probably get a loaner.

I was just throwing out the $100 travel guy, but I'd pay $85 more just to have someone to bitch to if you were not happy.

That's my exact thinking, also!
