what is the A and off under the power button?

Hi Everyone,

I replaced my trim with a set I bought on ebay. the set I purchased, came with it's own power button, so I did not bother to swap the one from my car.

Then I noticed it has a small A under the power button with the word off next to it. I think it's a button to toggle the engine on and off. My question is that I'm currently in a 2023 530e.

Do I need this? Is it kind of like an upgrade? or old tech? Does the 2023 530e hybrid need this?

Basically, I'm wondering if should I pull the trim and swap it out for my original power button? Or try to code it or something? At the moment, pushing the button doesn't seem to do much. I don't see a light come on or anything.

Engine Start Stop.

You can’t turn this off on the PHEV 530e. As it can always turn the engine off unlike the ICE variant.

Ditto…the ASS (AUTO START/STOP) button was used on BMWs with an internal combustion engine to activate or deactivate this auto shut down feature when the car comes to a stop.

Your 530e comes with #2 in the illustration below…gas/diesel engined G30 models come with #1
