First long road trip 530e

R/T Houston to/from Palm Springs 3092 mi
I-10 at 70-80 MPH, avg speed 61.2
37.0 MPG

Carried a spare RF tire "just in case" since I've had 3 blowouts in local area to date. Since I had it, I didn't need it.

West Texas is. But the 85mph speed limit makes it pass quickly.

Maybe but even if one could do 85mph all the way it’d still take 36hrs

It's enough to put you off road trips. Almost bumper to bumper with trucks and cars at 75-80 MPH for much of West Texas, so it does keep one awake. It used to be that in Winter there was no road construction, but now it's every day except Christmas--the only thing that drops average speeds. Two 9-hour days and one 7-hr day each way. It was the fuel economy that surprised me. No en-route charging. I was expecting between 25-30 MPG (non-Imperial gallons) at the speeds I was driving.

Just did an 800 mile trip around south FL last week. Several stretches of 30+ mpg on my M550i. It doesn't cease to amaze me. And it wasn't a boring trip.. So many great beach and wilderness routes around here.

Ha it’s ‘only’ a 14 hour drive from one end of Britain to the other, although it has reportedly been driven in under 10 hours

^^^I've done that drive. I found that when I left the A roads, there were a few too many left-overs from Roman carriage tracks to make much time. But always kept on one's toes avoiding the stone walls and fitting past oncoming traffic on the one-lane "roads".

It's clear that our BMW's get great fuel economy, whether hybrid or not, 4,6 or 8-cyl. I wonder if it's superior aerodynamics in sedan form or engine efficiency, or both. Clearly not we drivers pretending there is an egg between our right foot and the throttle pedal.
