This has me so disappointed

2018 540i xdrive - for the last 1.5 years the paint along the leading edge of the windshield is flaking off. I’ve used the touch up paint and the areas I’ve touched up are the only areas that don’t flake! At first I thought maybe I clipped it with the ice scraper but it happens even in the summer.
I bought the car from a dealership in Oakville, ON and they’ve told me tough luck. Has anyone ever seen this on another BMW??

I am sorry to see that happening.
I wonder how many times windshield has been replaced by not skilled hands…
this might help: https://us.robertspaintcare.com/

Yeah, I’m 90% certain that is a result of a bad install of a replacement windshield. Bad seal, aftermarket gasket, etc.

Thanks all. It seems to flake off when I do some higher speed highway driving. Regardless, I think I’ll touch it up again and sell or trade in the car.

that's not the car's paint, it's the trim paint. You could probably tape around it and then paint it yourself. Prep is everything!

This has just started happening to mine. I'm trying to find suggestions on how to stop it before it gets bad. Current leading thinking is to use some touch up paint to fill in the couple of spots, and seal the edges. Yours makes me worry about the rest of that leading edge doing the same, even if I touch up the couple of spots currently affected.

There is no trim on the roof's leading edge. That's absolutely body panel paint.

This is an area of the car that is subject to abuse when doing high-speed driving.

I regularly do runs up around 240 km/h and this is the only area on the car that has taken a noticible amount of damage. No paint loss like yours, but stone chips, and lots of grime build-up.

I hit it with Dr. Color Chip and multiple coats of Dr. Wack's nano wax a few months back and no real issues since.

UV may accelerate damage as well. If you cannot garage your car, this may be an issue.

I just ordered Dr. Color Chip. Hoping that will fix up what is there. May look at putting a small strip of PPF along that edge. Only problem I see with that is that, if the paint is weak there already, it may cause a really bad issue if I need to remove the PPF for some reason.
