Just heard from my CA, who's being pretty patient with my incessant questions.

It's on the Horizon Highway. Due to dock in Charleston, SC on 7/31.

According to the Kline company website, it left Bremerhaven on July 6, so it took two days for BMW's system to update.
Will you be tracking the ship? I track mine all the way to the dealer.

I really enjoyed tracking the ship when my 2018 540 was en route. I look forward to doing it again when my next one arrives later this year.

My wife, of course, thought I was insane and possibly a loser. But, whatever!

Hey! I'm keeping the position checks down to less than a dozen a day, and in between, I re-read the manual.

Hey "Doc", where did you find a 2021 5 series manual?

Bluestone Metallic. It's a color that BMW has offered for years, but I rarely see a BMW on the road with this color. I have visited several BMW dealers and only one had a 5 series on the lot in this color. Most 5 series on the lots I visited are black, graphite metallic or blue with black being the predominant color.

I used the VIN from my car and downloaded it from BMW. Look under the 'Owners' drop down on the BMW USA web site.

The manual became available a few days after the car was released from the factory.

My M550 went to Production Begins on June 29 and moved to Exterior Body Assembly today, July 10. The phone system said will be complete on the 15th. So it seems on track and hopefully will be in NJ before end of August.

It's always nice to watch your new toy being born.

I still think they need to set up some cameras and take some pictures for the 'customer sold' new owners - body in white after the corrosion dip, painted body prior to assembly, the marriage of the power train with the body, and one when it rolls off the line prior to final testing and quality check.

I love the look, but keeping black cars clean is almost a full-time job in Pennsylvania where I live.

Good luck with your new car.

Heading across the Atlantic

After a long stay in Southampton, the Horizon Highway has started her way across the Atlantic.

Arrival in her first U.S. port (Baltimore) is expected to be July 26 at 11 PM.

Then I still need to wait for her to get to Charleston, SC on the 30th or 31st of July.

Then customs clearance, then processing by BMW at the port, then transport to the Performance Center.

Looks like I'll take delivery in August.

Engineering Hold

Better yet, I spoke with my CA today to see if we had a delivery date at the performance center, especially since the car is on the ship and heading across the Atlantic, and he said 'no'.

The car is still in an 'engineering hold' (something BMW does with new MY vehicles), and until that hold is released, the PC can't set a delivery date.

I'm going to search the forums, but if anyone has experienced that before and can provide some details, feel free to chime in...

My CA provided some additional detail.

'The hold will stay until it hits the port and goes to the processing center. Part of it is for software updates but also final emission checks since it is a new model year. This is also probably one of the first batches so that's why it hasn't come off yet.'

So now we know. Be aware of the engineering hold when ordering a new MY car.

Translation = EPA hold. Each new model year requires emissions certification. Keep an eye on fuel economy.gov
