I raced a new Camaro SS 1LE edition two nights ago. I have JB4 G5ISO map 5 mixing to about E30 with AE exhaust. I pulled on him pretty hard and he was manual.

also, to add to what others have already posted, the gearing on them is typically a lot taller than our cars, which slows acceleration a good bit.

but physically, they are very small motors for their displacement, which is part of the reason why they are popular swaps into older import cars like RX7s.

SS's feel really slow.

I drove one 2 years ago, and I wasn't impressed to say the least.

Part of my sourness with the car is that it was a concept for like 7 years. Don't know why, but that will always bug me.

They are great highway cars I'm sure, but 0-80, they felt nothing but slouchy. I don't even think I would know if I was pulling on someone if I was driving a new SS, as the rear visibility is so damn bad, you can't see anything.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a stock SS as it was quite a bit louder than I remember them being. Sounded like cams and exhaust at least.

All I have on my 335i is a Cobb stage 1 tune, everything else is stock.

Long story short, neither of us could pull on each other. We were neck and neck through the whole race.

I could tell by the way the car was shifting that is was a manual, so I looked up the specs. those things are pretty beastly. 6.2L V8 with 426HP and 420TQ stock for a manual.

All in all, with specs like in the SS, I was more than happy that I stayed neck and neck the whole time. Now I need down pipes and a front mount :P
I believe one of these came up up on me during one of my favorite canyon runs this weekend. On the downhill portion I usually take it pretty easy because this is a very narrow road with many blind turns and private driveways. Also there are several turns that have fresh flowers and crosses from fatalities. Anyway I saw that he was wanting to run so i pulled over and waved him by. He quickly accelerated by and away so that i couldn't see him anymore. I continued at a liesurely pace until we got out of the populated area and started to climb out of the canyon at which point i started to pick up the pace. I saw him a couple turns ahead now- don't know if he had stopped or decided to slow the pace once he had passed me. I think he saw me catching up so he started gunning it and i could see him fishtailing and going across the double yellow lines to pull away. I'm not sure if he didn't know the road but he was really letting it all hang out and I thought- 'man that thing must be really heavy- he's got major balls to be driving like that on this road' The car looked so big i didnt realize their only a couple hundred pounds over the 335. But to make a long story short they must handle pretty good for him to stay ahead of me on a road that i know really well. I think i would choose the mustang over that just because of the sheer size of the car seems ungainly...

Why can't GM just make the COPO street legal , then you would have a bad ass Camaro option .. http://www.chevroletperformance.com/...opo-camaro.jsp

Our engines are so under-rated. With a mild tune, my 335 pulls dead even with my friend's '06 LS2 GTO rated at 400/400. Half the displacement, all the ballz.

Great cars but that interior would take a lot of getting used to imo. Manual hvac, weird dash, controls and gauges and not really very nimble. I was close though...............its very cool.

I have never heard of a multi-cam LSx motor. What does that sound like?

What about the SS/RS? The RS is a trim package which is available on both the base and SS Camaro variants. The SS is quick but not quick enough to beat a 12 year old unmodified BMW.

Beyond that the new ones are not true Camaros as they are not on an F platform, they are silly heavy and have the visibility of a pillbox.

Yes, comparing a FI engine versus an NA engine is about as stupid as judging them just on displacement.
