Shuffle Not Remembered

Got a weird one which apparently occurs with idrive 6 (happens on my 2018 M550 and wife's 18 440GC). I have ipod Nano's in both cars connected USB in the armrest cubby. Pick a playlist through idrive from the ipod, set it to shuffle in idrive. Works fine. Leave the music playing when shutoff the car, it starts back up and continues where it left off. However, I turn off the music, then the car, when the car is next started, the playlist resumes from the first song without shuffle. Drives me freaking nuts. This worked fine on my other BMWs, previous idrive versions. I normally don't import music to storage or play from a USB drive, but I need to figure something else out. Anyone else have this or better yet, find a solution?

So I checked with my service rep who confirmed this is a problem but wasn't sure if there will be a code fix from BMW. Grrr. Anyone who imported music to the local storage, do you use a playlist in shuffle mode and does it resume if you turn off the music before turning off the car? Also, if you import music and playlists, then add music and modify the playists from your computer and re-import, does it replace what's in the car or update/overwrite? Thanks.

My g30 does the same. Have not found a fix

Have you tried on other devices like USB? I do not own apple devices so no experience, but my car remembers position and shuffle on external drives.

EPIC FAIL BMW. So I've done some additional testing. I copied my mp3s to a USB drive, created playlists on it. The media system reads both the USB and the playlists, but the selection scroller on the steering wheel only shows the playlist in order, not the shuffle when set. Same when I imported from the USB to the onboard media storage. Did not see if it continues where it left off after powering off/on car. How could they spend so much money and time on redesign and mess up a fundamental function that previously worked as expected.
