I have the same setup on my 540i G31. At the begining I was little bit dissapointed-they looked small compared to 19 but I get used to.

I'm putting 17s on my G31 - I hoping they're don't look too small for the car.

I like it, works great on your car with the grey and black.

What finish are the wheels? Doesn't look as black as you gloss black summer set up.

Also feels more like a softer ride than the 19" for some reason or may just be me

Not sure how it would like mate but make sure you get the right size. if you have the m sport break system the smallest you can go is 18" otherwise the wheels dont clear.

so be careful of that

Thanks much appreciated.

I am not sure, they look the same as my summers with the finish. When i looked at them in person. i may take a closer look when i change them back next year.

Your right though it has more of a sheen to them

I stayed with the 2 wheel drive rather than x drive due to the extra weight and feel of it.

At the time the x drive was not an option too in the 530i

Let me know how they feel in the snow. We havent had proper snow now for a little while here in the north east of england but i have a feeling we may get some this year

Looks like njc has a 520d, so no M sport brakes.

But today i saw a 530e with M sport brakes, and it had 17" winters.

Looked like the 17" style 618.
It had VERY little clearance, and I'd be afraid that tiny rocks and pebbles would get stuck between the caliper and the barrel of the wheels and scrap them. I know this is a problem on the newest M3/M4 with carbon ceramic brakes and OEM 19" wheel. Personally I wouldn't go smaller than 18".

Yeah BMW say not to go below 18 on these for the clearance. Like you say this could cause issue while driving and may need to check the insurance as if anything happens it may not cover you.

This car was actually at a dealership, and I believe it was a demo car.

Defo i have had a drive back from london today and the tyres were great on the ice snow and slush at the service station

Think definitely a good investment

I am worrying about clearance as well. I am getting my 530e with blue m sport brake. In Canada, all G30s come standard with 19. I am debating if I need to get 20 inch. I am worrying about if 19 will have proper clearance

No need for 20" wheels. The wheels with the tiny clearance was only 17", so even OEM 18" wheels won't be a problem.

Offset on your winters vs summers

Hey RamboUK, appreciate you don’t have the G30 any more … and it was a while ago that you put on your winter wheels and tyres … but I have a question as I’m looking to put 18s on my 530i G30 M Sport … did you do anything about the offset? Similar to you I’m looking at going to non staggered 18s from a staggered set up on 20s and the offset at the rear would change from 44 to 30mm. Think you would have had the same difference in your set up from 19s to 18s. Any comments appreciated. Cheers

I would check to see if the rims you want (18's) will clear the calipers on your motor.
If M Sport - they likely will not. You need 19's.
I run staggered 19's for summer (down from 20's) and square 19's for winter :- 245 / 40's all round.
Just be sure to tell iDrive what you have done in settings to keep the system good.
I went OEM with alloywheelsdirect.net - they offer advice freely and good to deal with.

Thanks for the reply and the advice SonD. Much appreciated. I’ve checked and I have the same brake option as RamboUK (2NH). My local BMW dealer also took a look and was happy to quote for 18’s so I should be good. Now need to find some nice wheels! Shame RamboUK sold his already. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll take a look at that site. And based on your set up I guess you also have a different offset summer and winter but that’s not something you’re concerned about? Cheers
