Approval of individual options - BMW NA

My dealer has a request into BMW NA to approve Alcantara headliner for my 2019 M550 order. They put the request in on Monday, and haven't heard anything yet.

For those that have gone through the process of trying to get approval for an option that is not offered on a particular model, how long did it take to hear back from BMW regarding approval/non-approval?

Shame that option 776 is not offered at present (thought I read supply issues?)
As it is a very nice option. Assume the m5s are still getting this by default?

Hope you manage to get this even if you have to beg for it , could threaten it as being a deal or no deal item and be prepared to walk away to another dealer if necessarily

Within 36-48 hours. Depends on the time of day I ask, if my SA is in, and if he gets a reply that day or the next.

I asked about something Wednesday afternoon around 2:30. Got the response first thing today (Friday).

Maybe they are really trying for you. But it seems I had read somewhere that the answer was already "no" due to the supply chain.

Similar theme of the OP, are individual colors not listed ot the Pricing/Order Guides available on the G30?

Anyone had any luck with individual colors on the 530e?

I asked for Mineral White Metallic on my M550. It's offered on the non-M Sport 530 and 540 for $550.

I figured the up-charge would be the $1950 for Individual Paint. Nope...$5k.

So while they were willing to do it, I declined spending that just to add in a few metallic flakes.

I knew it would be expensive, but $5K! I think I like Bluestone Metallic even more!

Holy crap, that's alot for a different paint color that they already have at the Dingolfing plant and paint other 5-series with.

Kind of my thought.

But I trust my SA, who has given me no other reason to question him, and has shared the gist of his emails with the appropriate individual.

Just head back from my SA, BMW individual denied my request for the Alcantara headliner. In a world where you can get snakeskin seats through BMW individual, somehow, they've decided that the Alcantara headliner (which was available for order on the M550 3 months ago) is impossible. Keep in mind I agreed to wait add'l time for them to source the headliner.

I'm thinking of canceling the order at this point and buying a CLS53 when they come out in a few months. I know I can get the headliner through MB. Am I being crazy thinking of walking away from the car b/c BMW won't let me add the headliner????

Obviously your choice.
Assume they are still putting them in m5s?

And yes, I acknowledge it would be a bit foolish to pass on a car simply b/c of the headliner...but I will say I'm pissed that BMW won't allow me to add it on a $90k+ car. They have the headliners...they are just in short supply. I'm not asking to add it to a 1 series car (no offense to any owners here), seems they could say "yes" if they wanted to.

Thats true, but I would have still got the car if it was not available at the time.

What's the big deal with the headliner?

Yes, I've seen it in RL. I don't see that it makes the interior any more "special." I guess I'm not getting it in my car either way, but what am I missing?

And I do acknowledge your frustration with BMW. Same here, with the paint issue for me. No reason BMW needs to gouge the price for paint that they have on hand and put on other 5-series. However, they do have to draw the line somewhere for both of us. There are probably more reasons than not that we both will never have any clue about. Therefore, is what it is - take it or leave it.

In the end, there is much more to the car than just the paint color, or the headliner.

Right?

Right?
All valid points. And I will counter with: I'm pissed that BMW wouldn't allow me to add the headliner!

No argument there, but do you really want to pass up on this stellar automobile just because your panties are in a wad over something relatively silly, no matter how valid you think your reasoning is?

And to pass it up to go to MB, for goodness sake?

Just so you know, I'm on my third MB, and I'm jumping ship. MB are not all they're cracked up to be.

I don't wear panties...but all in good fun. I recognize it's hard to decipher sarcasm in forums...but that's all it was. Just frustrated I can't get the headliner I requested. The car is ordered and is scheduled for late Sept. build completion...so hoping to have in early November.

Damn the Alcantara company for not keeping up with demand.
