Lane keep assist - warning interval insanely short!

I noticed when driving with lane keep assist, the system/steering wheel turns to orange warning around every 5 seconds. This is insanity short and annoying compared with other semi-auto driving functions I tried such as tesla, volvo and hyundai - they pretty much have longer warning interval ~20s and longer.

Is there any way to change that?

Yes...by turning it off. In the BMW implementation, it is useless.

Regulatory requiement. The faster you go the shorter the time before it warms. Note once it warms it will allow about 30 seconds more assist until it disengages.

So motorway speeds it's about 3 seconds but slower speeds once traffic jam assist is activated , it can be quite a while depending upon circumstances.

To be fair it's designed to be used with your hands on the wheel so we , myself included use over and above what's it's designed for.

It is after all just level 2 in term of autonomy.

Whilst I use it a lot, it has its flaws.

I really like the lane keep assist on the Danish highways, it gets the road I would say 70-80% of the time, there are some scenarios where it just makes no sense when it loses the mails, like when the sun shines bright on one side of the car, or some type of lane markings. But in general I would say it works pretty well here.
Anyways yeah warnings at 130km/h come in pretty fast, but at slower speed in stop and go traffic it almost never says anything.

I can code so that no hands are needed for driving assist. Works really well and you can drive forever without the need to touch the steering wheel.

Had an LCI for a few weeks while my 17 was worked on. It's very much improved in smoothness and stability. Definitely makes me remember mine is a first gen implementation.
