G31 first maintenance - Software upgrade?
Hello,
I’m about to leave my G31 MY19 for its first maintenance this wednesday. They asked me if I’d like a software upgrade, it’s about 300 bucks. My current version is: Phone: TB-006.025.001 Media: MB-006.025.001 Is it any noticeable changes if I upgrade it and is it worth it? Anton |

dealers in my area usually don't offer this kind of software update I mean the whole idrive update until they absolutely have to. If nothing wrong with yours you could save that 300. I did mine last year because the backup camera black out, part of recall so I've got it for free. Nothing major for changes. You can check your software version in idrive (like NBT EVO xxxxx. Under navigation ) if it's too out dated go for the update. 300$ in BMW world is pocket change

This would be covered under warranty I'd imagine.
On my MB when I got software updates it was simply a matter of asking the dealer to update them and it would be covered under warranty. For my BMW I got its software updated a few months after ownership because I couldn't use the Remote 3D View function in the app (likely due to improper programing from the factory), but they were convinced it was due to issues on the app side. They updated the software anyway and didn't charge anything for it. These "updates" are meant to correct issues in prior versions and that's exactly the point of the warranty... It isn't like you're paying for an update that brings you new functionality. That would make sense to consider making a charge item, but not bug fixes as we see here... |

Maybe if you complain about that issue they'd reprogram car for no charge. Especially if you tell your SA that you read on the forums that BMW fixed this huge annoyance..... However, with you being in Europe I imagine they may handle issues differently than they do in US. Otherwise, I'm not sure you'd notice any improvements. Most of the fixes rolled up in these ISTA versions are quite nominal for a 2019 5 series which is a fairly mature platform.

If you search for I drive software update there is a bmw official website and it lets you download it onto a usb stick and do it yourself. I’ve just done mine. Took about 2 mins then had to leave the car for 15 mins to shutdown.

Those updates offered on the bmw website for download are simply Bluetooth software updates. They do not update anything beyond Bluetooth related functionality.
