"M" Steering Wheel Thickness
Does anyone else have trouble using only one hand to steer on the left side of the steering wheel (in the USA) with the thick "M" steering wheel? Is this something that everyone gets used to or enjoys?

don't have the m steering wheel, I know it's thicker, but no idea how much thicker it is vs standard ones, though if you leave the car in comfort mode for parking would think the steering effort is literally none (at least that's how I feel when I park, in comfort mode anyway)

This. It may sound crazy to some, but it's one of the reasons I opted for the M sport package in my current BMW and is one of the main reasons I will get it in my G30 as well.

The thick M sport steering wheel was the first thing I noticed when I picked up my 19 540ix. At first I was not loving it, I couldn’t understand why bmw would put such a thick steering wheel in a sedan and I was considering alternative steering wheels, even my 911 and my past R8 had thinner steering wheels.
I decided to relax and within a weekly two I got used to it. Now being about 4 months later I am very happy with the steering wheel and wouldn’t even consider changing it. It’s amazing how you get used to things so quickly. |

Definitely not crazy at all guys. M sport steering wheel is also the reason I opted in for the m sport pkg when I was looking for a 540i albeit I ended up with a M550i where it's standard. That steering wheel is first and foremost amazing to look at, I personally think the 5 series steering wheel (the stock one) is pretty ugly and would be a deal breaker (now that may sound crazy), but it is also amazing to hold and drive around with. If you are not a car guy in terms of being an avid driver, you may not like it.

From time to time in articles I see reviewers poking fun at BMW's thick steering wheel. I never understood why they object to it.
The M-sport steering wheel is one of the reasons I got the M-sport package and I find it extremely comfortable and seemingly just right for me. I still drive an E36 M3 sometimes and the steering wheel in that is much thinner. The thicker modern M-sport steering wheel is more comfortable to me. |

Also very happy with the thicker steering wheel.
My other car is a 2003 4Runner with a skinny but big wheel in comparison. I find that fits quite well for the SUV platform, but in the G30 having the extra heft to grip on to is nice. All personal preference, I suppose. |
