I like it - have been thinking about doing the same with mine. Maybe a little wider around the edges, but it gets it closer to the LCI look

Using a film cover the whole taillight, then cut out.

Looks good! Did you make a template or anything to get the measurements the same from left to right?

No i didnt, however the lines in the taillight guided me.
I didn't think about using plastidip. I was going to use a 2" gloss vinyl tape.

3 layers, i had to do the layers pretty quick because if you wait too long you will peel it while removing tape. Best thing about this is it is very easy to remove and go back to stock. It looks really good in person.
