My new M550 and CPO warranty question

Hey guys! Very excited to have joined the club with my new to me 2021 M550. I am absolutely thrilled with this car it’s fantastic and by far the best thing I’ve driven. It’s individual Aventurin red with cognac interior. It’s got the dynamic handling package, Bowers and Wilkins, driving assistance plus, parking assist, executive package and the 20 inch wheels on non run flats.

It’s a CPO with 15k miles and about 2 years 4 months of warranty including the CPO year. I’m wondering what a good price would be for the 2 year CPO extension which I definitely want to purchase. Does anybody have experience with this as I’m planning to sit down with my local dealer to negotiate on this. Thanks in advance for the help!

Lovely car! Congrats and welcome. Many of us have opted for the Route 66 warranty. There is a nice thread on it here. I don't have advice on the BMW warranty as I have never purchased one.

Congrats! Beautiful spec and optioned exactly the way I would.

Two more years of CPO is going to run you $4,000 right now. You don't need to do anything now as you can buy two more years pretty much on the last day of your current CPO, but not after.

Search here for the Route 66 thread. I may have started it (can't remember) but I am all over it. It's cheaper, covers much more and is for 7 years. You can still bring your car to the dealer or anywhere else for the matter.

Fellow Mass guy here as well. I will keep an eye out for you, that's a spec you don't see much. I live in Wakefield and work in Burlington. Here is mine, can't miss me.

Awesome I’ll look into the Route 66 your the second person to recommend it! Your car looks great! I’m in the south shore so we probably won’t run into each other much. Have you gone through many tires? I already had a blowout in the first month on a nasty pothole

I am a South Shore guy born and raised. Made my way to the North Shore chasing a girl. I am from Easton and still down there a lot.

Tell me you got the wheel and tire insurance?? I have not had a blowout and my car is also optioned with non-runflats, but I drive defensively. In terms of wear, I had about 25k miles on my PSS's and they still had thread. Fronts were worse than the rear. My Service Advisor was able to get me two new front tires a few months ago as part of a Wheel and Tire insurance claim. I slightly rashed my right front. She got the insurance company to fix the wheel rash, straighten two of the four rims and put two new PSS's upfront.

I still have decent tread on the rears, but I'm hopeful she will find a way to get me two new tires back there next Spring.

W&T insurance already paid for itself and more.

Beautiful color combination that I would have snapped up myself if I were looking. While my G30 is Carbon Black with Cognac, my Corvette Z06 is a very similar combination to yours which Chevy called Long Beach Red with Kalahari. Enjoy it! --Bob

I didn’t get the wheel and tire insurance because the dealer I bought from had a completely ridiculous price I think I could buy two sets of wheels and tires before it would pay for itself so I decided to self insure lol. My car came on the PSS but when I had the blowout I swapped all 4 to PS4 all seasons and I got road hazard coverage on them. Really happy mine came with the space saver spare though.

Trust me, you are ahead of the game with non-runflats. I have the spare as well, but it would take me being stranded in the desert for me to change a tire. Roadside Assistance or AAA will be towing it ot the dealer if I get a flat. I just wanted soft summer rubber as runflats ride hard and bubble on the side wall easily. Yeah, some dealers try to bend you over on the closing shit add-ons. I picked up an X5 earlier this year and I shut the finance manage right down on all the crap except W&T. She wanted something like $3500 for three years. I said thanks but no thanks, she then proceeded to ask me how much I was I willing to pay. I said, honey, I did this song and dance for three hours negotiating on the car, I am not bartering with you on this. I also was on the fence on the insurance with the X5 as it has nice thick sidewalls and the wheels are pretty generic. I also don't care about the car all that much in terms of cosmetic wheel rash.

On my M550 I got 3 years for $1900. This includes cosmetic damage coverage. It's from All State sold to me at the dealer I bought the car from. Pretty good deal.

You will bend the 668's easily on our shitty roads and blow some tires.

Did some research today and I’m going to purchase a wheel and tire warranty from AAA. Seems pretty reasonably priced I can get 5 years for $1600 and seems to have positive reviews!

The last time I checked one of the best places to get the extended wrap warranty to push the CPO out to seven years from the initial in-service date is Steve Thomas Bmw in Calabassas. They sell the warranties and are very competitive on prices. I am guessing you would be at about 4000 max.

That would get you out to seven years and unlimited mileage from the date your car was first titled. I would highly recommend adding this warranty as these cars can be expensive to service when the factory warranty runs out.

As an example, my 2018 M550 is currently under the extended CPO warranty. About a month ago my air conditioner was having problems and was blowing hot air. I took it in for service and they diagnosed the evaporator was leaking that required them to remove everything from the seats forward and I mean everything. They had to remove the center console the steering wheel, the dash everything from the firewall back to the back seats. My car was gutted. It took the dealership a week to do the repairs and the Service Advisor told me if I did not have warranty coverage it would’ve been six or $7000.

I had the extended CPO coverage and they paid for everything. I got my car back. Everything is perfect the air conditioner blows ice cold, and there are no squeaks or rattles in the dash despite everything coming out.

I know the picture is low quality. I grabbed the steel image from the video. The Service Advisor sent me, but you can see pretty much everything inside. My car was removed.

Do yourself a favor and spend $4000 to have your car covered all the way up to seven years and unlimited mileage.

My extended warranty has already paid for itself

That’s pretty good. How did you find the plan? I don’t have W&T. I have 19” wheels but I finally did have one bubble. Luckily I just bought them, so road hazard covered it. I just paid labor. I’ve had to replace one or two on my X7. Ouch.

Nice. Mine is up April 2024 and I will do the same. That is a great deal. Does it cover accidental cosmetic damage? That was an add-on to mine.

I used to be a stickler for BMW only extended warranties. I wanted that no questions asked attached to VIN coverage. For the first time I deviated. Route 66 was too hard to pass up for the cost, years of coverage and that it covers more than CPO, such as suspension components. Control Arms, bushings etc. aren't cheap. Route 66 is also cancelable for a prorated refund where CPO is not on most states. Something to think about if I sell/trade it before the 7 years/120k miles is up.

I have not made a claim yet, so we shall see. Others have with success and my SA said they were great to deal with.

It does cover cosmetic damage! It also includes coverage for lost key fob replacement and painless dent removal.

Jesus, that is a great deal. Did you go to a AAA office or do it all online?

Just Google AAA wheel and tire insurance and on their website you fill out the year make and model and they’ll send you the quotes in a few hours!

If you get a similar price and suspension coverage? Wow. I didn’t look into Route 66 but definitely compare prices and if it’s comparable they may be a better deal
Than bmw extended CPO!

The BMW extended warranty does not cover suspension components or bushings when my car was getting the $7000 evaporator repaired. I did have to replace one engine mount and that ran about 800 bucks out of pocket parts and labor.

Than bmw extended CPO!

The BMW extended warranty does not cover suspension components or bushings when my car was getting the $7000 evaporator repaired. I did have to replace one engine mount and that ran about 800 bucks out of pocket parts and labor.
Oh I know! I am OCD about suspension and shimmys. If you have owned a BMW with 70-80k miles, there is a good chance you will get the steering wheel shimmy, which could be lots of things, but also can be control arms and bushing. As soon as I feel like it is getting loose it bugs me. This was one of the main selling points for me.

We shall see when I have a claim though. With BMW, you know what you are getting. $3200 for 7 years or 120,000 miles was hard to pass up. Includes infotainment too.

The only thing it does not cover that concerns me is lighting. The halos or angel eyes in these headlights is known to fail. I don't think CPO covers that either.
