teh quattro got the history backing it up. and i mean.. most rally cars 4 wheel drive system is based off the quattro. for example i know for a fact the evos 4 wheel drive system is based on it.

Illiterate? No. Could you have elaborated more? Yes. Who cares how many versions of a model platform there are. Infiniti only has one G35 sedan. Are you saying that they can not compare/compete with the BMW 3 series because they only have one model? Your argument is still flawed.

The only reason the old S4 competed with the M is because the RS4 did not exist. Now you compare stock A4 to 325, S4 to 335 and RS4 to M3. It makes sense to me.

Audi's AWD systems in the S4 and RS4 are definately more sports oriented than the XI. This will all change in the next two years when both systems by Audi and BMW take on the current abilties that Acura has (I know that is surprising), but Acura's system will transfer rear power left to right up to 100 % which both standard systems from Audi and Bmw do not. Audi's new rear sport diff does exactly that as well as the new Xdrive system that is going in the X6. I would assume they will adopt it to all the X-drives or my next car won't be a bimmer.

yes i could have elaborated more, but now your thinking is flawed, and i still feel u do not completely read my responses. as i have already stated we are comparing lexus bmw and merc and audi. i did not once mention infiniti. and if you were to compare the infiniti g line with the bmw 3 series like how we do the merc lexus bimmer and audi. the 328 and m3 would match up to nothing in the infiniti and the 335iwould match up to the g35/37. im saying we should not compare the bmw 3 series to the audi 4 line because the power outputs of their engines are harder to compare with the bmw 3 series. if we were to compare the a4 i4t with nothing and the a4 with the 328 and the s4 with the 335i and the m3 with the rs4. the 328 and a4 makes no sence at all. and yet agian the a4 i4t has nothing to compare to within these 4 brands. when i say how we compare the merc, lexus, bmw, and audi right now, i mean by this

bmw - lexus - audi - merc
? ? a4 i4t ?
328 is250 ? c300 ......................... a4 only compares with c350 and vice versa
335i is350 s4 ?
m3 is-f rs4 c66

comparison based on engine power of the 4 brands. and current 2008/2009 models only

What are you talking about? The 3.2L A4 is a direct competitor to the 328i.

328 has 230hp while 3.2l a4 has 265. close but not direct competitor.
direct competitor would be the c350 with its 268hp

New S4's pretty sweet. I must confess I'm a big fan of Audi AG in general.
Also, like a few have mentioned, the Audi DSG is the best in the biz and their manual gearbox on the B6 and B7 S4's was slicker shifting than any 3 series ever. Their All wheel drive systems are also without peer. Audi paint is as good as it gets, and to me their interiors are better than any competitors. Gas mileage was the only downfall of the outgoing car. It was weighty but a blast to drive.
Plus, above all, Audi's are free from the pretentious stigma that comes along with the roundel...
It will be interesting to see what the real world gas mileage returns are...

OK, then by your standards the 2.0L is a direct competitor. I'm sorry, but you're just wrong, because both cars compete directly against the 3 series.

have you not read anything i said. i said the the a4 and c350 does not compare with the 335i and is350. and the a4 2.0t doesnt compare with anything because the other 3 brands dont have anything with a i4 engine. all this based on power of the engines. did u not see my little chart thing? lol ive been saying in my past responces, comparisons based on engine power

My point is comparisons based on engine power and layout alone are stupid. The A4 is a direct competitor to the 3 series. You can say it isn't, but it is. If you don't believe me give BMW or Audi a call and ask them. Using your logic, an Elise doesn't compare with a Cayman, because it has significantly less HP and a different engine layout. Ask me which one I'd rather drive around a track.

True.

The 328i was compared to the G35 in Car & Driver and in their OVERALL comparison they declared the 328i the winner despite the HP difference. Using engine power and layout is a meat head comparison.

Yes, you did... in your previous post, twice:

"the a4 2.0t doesnt compare with anything because the other 3 brands dont have anything with a i4 engine. all this based on power of the engines. did u not see my little chart thing? lol ive been saying in my past responces, comparisons based on engine power"

So instead of accusing others of not reading your posts, why don't you read your own posts.

They're not 1:1 competitors. The S4/S5 fills in the niche between the 335i and the M3. They compete, but it's equally as fair to compare it to a 335i as it is to an M3. It's really just up to opinion and debate, but the bottom line is that there's no direct comparison.

M3>S4/S5>335i>3.2>328i>2.0t *imo*.

While I agree with you for the most part (except 335i>=S5, IMO), I'd add that they are both compact luxury sedans, similarly enough priced, thus making them direct competitors. Granted, there is some overlap in terms of price/power, but that doesn't mean that they don't compete with each other. Mercedes' C class, Audi's A4/S4 class, and BMW's 3 series all compete in the same market segment.

E.g, If I go to Edmunds and click new cars -> luxury -> sedan -> compact -> 35k - 45k, the top two entries are the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 series, followed by the Lexus IS 350, the Saab 9-3, and the Volvo S60. Note the C class is considered a midsize sedan by Edmunds.
