Got my AW M3 Today ! Review + Pics
So Today i woke up and go to work, around 12 - 1pm i called my CA about adding Paint and Wheels Protection in. The CA said "guess what ur car just arrived !" I was shocked and jump off my chair. However, the CA told me i wont be able to pick up until thursday (coz Wed is his day off) and i was like wtf, is it possible to get it today ? he said he will try his best to get the vehicle PDI etc. 3 hours later i got a call from him and said the car is READY !
So I Hop in my E46 M3 and drive 77 miles to the dealership. when i am about to turn into the dealership. I saw a white M3 just parked infront of the BMW showroom. I know thats my girl right there. I stopped my Car hop out, the CA ran out and welcome me and said "HERES YOUR CAR". First impression of this car, one word "Gorgeous". I am stunned for a second by just looking at the car, it a attention catcher car seriously. Heres are some Pics: So i did all the paperwork and pay for the car etc. The CA ran me thru all the electronics and stuff on the car. I am satisfied with only 9 miles on the car because i told them i dont want any body to sit nor test drive my car, plus i am THE ONLY MDCT around these area. so i wont be suprised if someone want to test it out. Anyway, heres the next FAMOUS steps ... Yes, I need to drive 77 miles again back home before it gets Clearbra-ed. So this is necessary (Flamers Off plz). After i am done with the blue tape, theres a customer walked out of the showroom and asked me how i felt about the car. I was like I didnt even drive it yet, but i am already in love with this car just by the look. He drove a E46 M3 atm, and wanted to buy a E92 sedan M3. so he asked me hows the new MDCT (he drove SMGII). again i didnt even drive the car yet, so i cant give him the review. However, I offered to let him sit on my ride (not driving it :P) and take a spin. He was impressed! I hope he made his order ! Anyway thats it for my story. Now to the Review after 77 miles journey home. MDCT Transmisson Compare to SMGII on the E46, thats amazing. No more Jurk No more head snap etc on S3 D3. The car feels like an automatic. I tried S5 on the highway, and try to keep the Rev below 5.5K rpm ( i cant test the downshift rev match atm). It felt sporty and manual-like, imo i like it. However the only downside about the shifting is compare to the E46 SMG. theres a "shift lag" on the tranmission. I felt like theres like a .5 sec lag, before the screen show i chged the gear. I need to try this thing again later on. EDC and Handling I tried different settings on the highway and its amazing. I love EDC. I can adjust the way i want with the suspension. Comfort is comfortable, Sport is aggressive and I can feel with the road etc. I try to exit the highway and test the Handling. its amazing, this car is a beast on handling. I felt a strong grib on the road. However i dont like the feel of the steering wheels, it seems too soft compare to the E46 M3. However the turns and such is precise. Engine/Acceleration This car is definately a BEAST. i can feel the V8 Power and the engine roar when the rpm is 3K+... about 5K this beast even roar harder and felt like unstoppable. It makes me want to push further, however, sigh Break-in period. with windows up i can feel the engine and the rev. For the exhuast, its way better than the E46 M3 stock, its aggresive and throat for a stock, it def show the power of V8. However, i want it louder, my esienmann race is waiting to be installed (Special thanks to Nate@IND) Gadgets (iDrive, comfort access, premium sound etc) Another reason that makes me want to buy this car is the new gadgets. The iDrive (which i think i will be annoyed by it soon), the comfort access, which is amazing and i love it, its fun just to play with it (its like magic!) and for the premium sounds, its def better than the E46 M3 with Harmon Kardon system. I can feel the bass and high accurate tone of the music! Overview I am so happy right now, and i cannot tell you how much i love this new M3 I dont think i will regret this at all, and i love the essence/spirit of this car. The V8 is great, the handling is far the best i ever driven, the EDC is fun and great add on to the car. Msport (never got a chance to test it ). Finally, I know once the breakin period is over, this car is going to be a beast ! and now i cant wait to get to 1200miles ! Heres my spec of the Car: Alpine White M3 Black Leather interior Carbon Leather trim Premium Package Cold Weather Package Technology Package Park Distance Control Premium Sound system Ipod Integration Incoming Mods: PIAA/Bellof angel eye Vorsteiner Single Side Carbon Fiber Bootlid H & R Sport Springs Esienmann Race exhaust Matte black kidney grill Ultimate Pedals V1 Radar detector 35% Ceramic Tint Full Hood Fender Venture shield Clear bra. And thank you all for your time and help during my wait period, it seriously worth it !

Congratulations on your new car, man! Great pictures too. Can't wait to enjoy the same feeling you did when you first saw her. Mine still doesn't have a production date, so I'm probably in for a long wait. Enjoy your new ride!!

I LOVE IT! However I opted for some CLEAR low-tack vinyl tape to get me 250 miles home! http://www.findtape.com/product375/J...inyl-Tape.aspx .

Congrats!
I got pretty much the same, including DCT on the way. Should be here next week. Which ultimate pedals are you going with? I'm still 50/50 on the clear bra. I'd love to here how i turned out. Your M3 looks great.

uh oh..... I was afraid of hearing those words:
"However the only downside about the shifting is compare to the E46 SMG. theres a "shift lag" on the tranmission. I felt like theres like a .5 sec lag" This is what I hated about the MB 7Gtronic and Audi DSG paddle-shifting and was hoping M-DCT would be more like the SMG3 in my M5 in this regard which I found to be at my threshold of tolerable shift lag. But after Swamp's description of a lag between the paddle click and the shift and now you making an observation that it has even more shift lag than the M3's SMG2, this does not bode well considering the M5's SMG3 is an improvement of the SMG2. Oh man, I hope I don't regret ditching my 6MT car to wait for a shift-laggy M-DCT. It seriously drives me nuts in cars like Audi/VW DSG. |

Mmm, if only BMW offered "Painter's Tape Blue" as a nonmetallic paint.
Grats on the car!

perhapse the shift-lag has something to do with throttle position of sports-plus setting? I mean if you are only part throttle maybe it's more lazy and if you are full-on maybe it tightens up? I don't know maybe some people with DCT can shed some light on the subject.
Great car, too bad it's white you won't be able to find your car in a parking lot with all the other AW M3s. |

Congrats on the car.
I'd say there's a little bit of lag from activation of the paddles to shift, I'm not sure it's even .5 seconds. However it seems as if the lag is less when shifting on the shifter as opposed to the steering wheel paddles. I found it very easy to adjust my driving style to the car by clicking the paddle a fraction of second sooner than needed. I usually shift on the shifter (probably to many years as a MT driver) and it feels as if there's less lag.
