BENZ CLS500 vs. BMW 335i

sup everyone. i've been browsing around these 335i forums for a while now, although i do not drive one. I was just wondering what do you think would happen...cls500 vs 335i stock for stock. I raced an is350 from about 60mph all the way to around 135. Started pulling away from the lexus at around 95mph and by 130 was about 10 lengths ahead. I know the 335 is faster than an is350 i think they're close enough. The benz also has a very flat torque curve, like the 335i.the max torque comes in earlier on the bmw but the benz has around 40 lbft. but also weighs morewould love to race one of those 335's but I'm very curious what would happen. have any of you 335's raced a cls500 or even e500 or clk500? sorry if this is irrelevant, but mb forums are so dead.

Well stock for stock i know a E550 will take a 335i pretty badly, I also know that a S550 does low 14 sec 1/4 mile so it depends on where your car is between those 2.

Stock for stock, an E550 ~ 335i.

a 335i should beat a CLS500 pretty bad, a CLS550 would be much closer.

I had the CLS550 on my shopping list when I chose the 335i. It accelerates like a couch with an electric motor, albeit one that times fast. However, the looks and interior still almost won me over.

Traded down a CLS500 for my 335. The CLS has it for the first 100ft, after that there is too much pull with the 335 for the CLS to keep up. My friends CLS550 is not any quicker off the line than the 500 but the pull is harder throughout the gears so its close.

I raced a cl500 from 40-130. He creeped 1/2 cl right at the start and then we stuck side by side all the way to 130.

Which MB forum are you visiting? mbworld.org is very active. They have a kill forum there where you can post what happened between you and the 335i.

Not sure about a stock 335i, but I suspect the 335i would still beat a CLS500 easily. My brother currently drives a CLS500 and we had a little fun on the hwy. one day, but my car is PROcede-equipped. While we were driving, we were talking to each other on the cellphones, and I said..."hey, watch this...ready, set...GO." He gave it all his CLS500 had, and so did I. Needless to say, me and my PROcede-equipped 335i flew past him like he was standing still! It wasn't even close...after ~ 15 sec., I was ~ 15 CL ahead and all he said was ..."OMG!!!!!!"

Cool, I didn't know those MBs were so fast! Does that mean a E550 is as fast if not faster than an E46 M3?

I found these test results from Edmunds.com on a 2007 E550

Performance Top
0 - 30 (sec): 1.9
0 - 45 (sec): 3.4
0 - 60 (sec): 5.2
0 - 75 (sec): 7.6
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 13.5@104.4 30 - 0 (ft): 31
60 - 0 (ft): 126
Braking Rating (Excellent, Good, Average, Poor or Very Poor): Excellent
Slalom (mph): 63.50
Skid Pad (g-force): 0.80
Handling Rating (Excellent, Good, Average, Poor or Very Poor): Good
Db @ Idle: 45.9
Db @ Full Throttle: 70.8
Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 64.4
Acceleration: Best acceleration run was achieved by brake torquing the engine to 1200 rpm and allowing the automatic transmission to shift itself. The manual shifts don't respond quickly enough.

based on the above numbers, a good driver in a 335i (auto or manual) should be able to keep up with an E550 and beat it if its manual tranny equipped.

Your CLS500 is a gorgeous sports sedan (aka 4-door coupe ) and it's got 302HP/339TQ, but it's very large and very heavy (4,050lbs.)...as all the MB's are. My bro loves how his CLS500 looks, but he says it just doesn't compare with how the BMW drives. His next car, he says, will be the new BMW 7-Series (or another 5-Series as he's had before).

one was dying to race me last night... on my way from and to home. It was funny that I met up with him. It was a CLS550. I know I am competing with him in my 330i so I didn't line up with him.. but he kept taunting me lol. Maybe he thought i was a 335i. No race was made, but i found it interesting that his post exists after last night.
