Agreed. De-badged my 2022 540xi, removed the "Porsche" from my GT4, and debating if I should also remove the Macan GTS and just leave the Porsche logo that is in the light bar on my 2021.
540xi looks great. I thought about it, but I think mine benefits from the contrast. It's dark graphite and is pre-LCI so the taillights are more plain Jane.

I think this would look great if I had an M Sport. Mine is a 2018 Luxury Line, so it has more chrome trim than an M Sport. There's enough of it that I like that I don't want to black any of it out. If I had a black car, I could do that here and there and make it seamless. But it's dark graphite, so it would be too much contrast between remaining chrome, black, and paint. I've even got a chrome strip on the rear bumper.

Off topic but this is my biggest conflict in getting Dinan exhaust. It will fit non M Sport. But the only tip color option for 540 is black tips. I'm afraid it will clash with all the chrome accents on the car.

You don't have an M so you shouldn't add any M badge. It's not an M5 or a M550.

I would not overthink it. I think it will look great. It's down so low that it will not contrast your chrome trim. I think we all overthink sporting a combo of chrome, cerium gray, carbon fiber and gloss black. I am real happy with the look of my car. CF spoiler, CF Grill, Gloss Black Diffuser and the rest Cerium.

You could swap out the grill for a black one to bookend the look. BMW sells many chrome trimmed cars with an all black grill. Just a thought.

Thanks for the comment. And good point on the bookend. Definitely something I could think about.

If your car is "tuned" and has updated power, suspension, etc an "M" badge on the trunk won't hurt.

Afterall, the car comes with the M logo on the dash and door sills.

If that's the case putting a quad exhaust on a G30 should be frowned upon only it's not.

Do what you want.

Mod your car the way YOU want it!

It’s your car and your decision but I would advise against it. I also don’t understand people who de-badge everything from their cars. To me it makes it look like it’s stolen lol.

Negative. Just because you mod your car doesn't mean it is worthy or appropriate to put an M badge on it if it is not really an M-Sport or real M. That's just a ricey move. Who are you fooling? No one but yourself and why would it be so important to you if you weren't trying to fool others.

If you want an M car, buy one. Fake badging is disrespecting the brand and loyal enthusiasts.

Negative.....

Just because you wouldn't do it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.

Now if he put an M5 badge on it I'd agree with you.

Just my opinion of course.

It’s pretty much the same thing I.e putting a badge on a car that is not the car. Same tasteless thing to me. Kind of like the tri clored grill stripe crowd, but even worse.

We will agree to disagree.

I just want make sure I read your post right and that I’m not coming at you because I read it wrong.

You think it’s ok to, for example, buy a luxury line 540 and do a few mods and put M badging on it?

I’m honestly not trying to get into anything. This type of thing is clearly a thorn in my side though.

Lol I love these threads. I love that this one keeps getting revived.

If someone doesn’t think it’s a problem, fine. The rest of us will be over here judging you.

But if your take is that it would be wrong to mislabel a M5, then I don’t see how this is different. There is an M version for almost every BMW model and then there is an “M Lite” model.

M Lite models are more than just M Sport trim packages. There is no M330 but there are 330 cars with M Sport trim packages. The M340 is it’s own standalone model.

I could put a M badge on my X7 40i with M Sport trim, but it would be a misrepresentation because there is no X7 M40i.

Again, I’d you’re cool with misrepresenting what you’re driving, I don’t care. Go for it. I’m just pointing out that your invisible line, between this and putting an M5 badge on it, doesn’t make any sense to me.
