IDrive Software Update Benefits

Been reading a lot about upgrading the iDrive and it being a dealer only option, but does anybody actually know what each upgrade brings?

Is it just bug fixes, new features or smoother transitions?

I’m running NBTevo_M17345I

Is it worth doing? I know full screen CarPlay is only available with a later version but what else?

They're up to NBT_U for NBT_evo.

I doubt you'll notice much. Mostly bug fixes and under the hood changes to improve security, thwart (half heartedly) third party hacks to iDrive. Bluetooth improvements might be most noticeable improvement if you're experiencing any Bluetooth issues.

Snap. I went from M to S and noticed a few visual tweeks (an icon gear knob to advise to change up our down and a notch on the mpg bar) but also a smoother transition on stop start. This was free on request.
I also had a problem with the boot opening when I pressed the fob button accidentally. A fix is available to turn the boot into requiring two buttons on the fob to be pressed. In us this is free, chargeable in uk £120. This took me from S to U whilst programming the fix. Can't see any differences but feel the car is smoother and maybe more economical. This may be purely subjective

So they updated yours for free? Was this at a main dealers? Did you just ask for it or have to say something was wrong.

My local BMW specialists have said it will be about £80 to get it done...

I got them to update mine by saying I have been having backup camera problems.

My car was updated to V by the dealer. I had a few instances of the reverse camera not showing up so I booked it in for them to fix. They have updated the software as they mentioned a PUMA to resolve the reverse camera issue. There are some visual changes but not much else. I guess it’s all bug fixes.

Car was in for some work yesterday. Updated the "V" (NBTevo_V20153I). Apparently part of the reason was for "Enhancement code 0061230500" that I understand relates to the active cruise control.

That site supposedly hasn't been updated since September 2019.
Any new updates are now from the dealer.
I got updated to "V' this month at the dealer under warranty
