Run flat tires

Hello all,

I just checked tirerack and noticed that the g30 M Sport no longer comes equipped with Goodyear Eagle LS2 crap that came with the F10 ( I went thru 9 tires in 3 years).
If my CA gives me the option to choose, which tire should I go with? I need one that's less prone to bubbles.

1. Continental Procontact GX SSR
2. Pirelli Cinturato P7
3. Goodyear Eagle Sport

You don't get to choose. The factory will install whichever brand they have in stock.

are the runflats being used on the G30 any different to those used on the F10?

I thought I had read somewhere on these forums about them being possibly next generation ,perhaps a bit softer and limited to 50miles when flat.
will have to see if I can find that.

I added spare tire option and ordered 18 inch non run flats. I need the rubber, Went through 4 tires in 3 years with my 535 and either bubbles or nails. Where I live, to many potholes for 19 or 20 rims. Assuming you can order spare tire option $150, get your 19 inch rims and down line, rip off the run flats entirely.

1) you cannot choose which tyres you get.

2) The current fitted by the factory on the G30 are

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3 (18", 19" 20")
Michelin Primacy 3 (18", 19")
Pirelli Cinturato P7 (18", 19")
Hankklook Ventus S1 evo2 (18")
Pirelli PZero (20")

Michelin Pilot Super Sports will be optional in 20" later on.

Jeez E90 Fleet, from your posts you are a fountain of knowledge on all matters BMW- are you an employee??!! Seriously, I have a 530d M Sport on order which will have asymmetrical tyres so does that mean I get Goodyears? I replaced the factory fit rears on my current car (275/35) with Goodyear run flats a couple of months ago - they were €100 cheaper per tyre compared to the next best - and now I know why, they are crap, definitely tend to lose grip and have worn very fast (I'm on 56km on the car and fronts are still above 3mm depth). Don't ask my which model Goodyear they are, storm Doris is currently over Ireland and I'm not going to venture outside to check!

No, just know where to find info and learning as others ask questions.

The Goodyears used on the G30 are a brand new design and have gotten top marks in tyre tests.

You could get either the Goodyears, Michelins or Pirellis

I realized my order will come with 18 inch run flats and I ordered a spare tire as well. I don't know what I was thinking I heard the run flats cause a lot of tire roll noise. When the run flats wear off, can I switch to the non-run flats if I change my mind?

Yes, no problem. why don't you call dealer and see if they can give you option 24w before build is complete. that will give you non runflats with free spare. I guess cost is less for non runflats, so give you spare for free.

No, you would have to order spare $150 and swap out run flats yourself I believe.

I had Dunlop's on my F10 for 3 years, then changed to Michelin, much better grip and much quieter (RFT's BTW)...

Believe it or not I got Falken's on the rear now (went cheaper as I am selling it this week), and they are even better on grip and noise !)

I am interested to see what I have on my G30 which gets delivered next Thursday

You cannot just compare Dunlop vs Goodgear etc. you have to compare particular models.

Currently the best tire on the market is Michelin PS4, it's a very new model and unfortunately is not using them. I'm even tempted to replace tires once I get the car (it will probably come with Michelin Primacy) since PS4 according to all I read is simply incredible.

The first generations of runflats made more noise and use to tramline.
With the current generations I cant hear or feel a difference between them and my cars fitted with regular tyres.

The first generation run flats on my 2007 E60 made me worry I would lose all my teeth every time I hit a bump, since my first F10 in 2010 I have not been conscious of them and like the added security of being able to drive on if punctured; its only happened a couple of times but it was sweet not to have to go changing a tyre on the side of the road in darkness

After a 220 mi trip to San Antonio just after delivery of my F10 with Goodyear run flats, I immediately changed them out for non run flat Continentals, bought a cheap alloy 18" wheel from Discount tire and threw it in the trunk with a jack. The Goodyears will go back on when I do a lease pull forward turn-in this Dec. Just drove a 530i with the M-performance option and 19" run flats. They were much better than the ones on my F10. I'll probably keep the run flats on the new 530e. The "e" doesn't have the delete run flats option, probably because the spare tire well is occupied with electronics (hope BMW has figured out how to keep water out of there). By the way, the delete run flats is a zero cost option, but initiates a mandatory $150 charge for a space saver spare.
