In case it helps, this was the timeline for my 540i. We are in the UK but I imagine it’s the same apart from the shipping time.

Order placed 5 July (originally ordered in March but changed due to LCI)
Scheduled for Production 28 Aug
Started Production 14 Sept
Paintshop Start 21 Sept
Assembly Complete 24 Sept

After this our car was only at the port in Bremerhaven for a few days before boarding a ship (I believe it was the Thalatta, looking at the timings).

These updates may not be 100% accurate as we don’t get the same tracking tool as you guys. This was just me hassling BMW UK, and then towards the latter stages, we got a few emails.

Our dealer originally told us mid October for our delivery, and today she told me it should arrive within the next 10 days, so their estimate was pretty close.

That must be really frustrating. Ours did feel like it moved quickly once it entered production though.

From what I can gather reading other posts about it, the biggest delay often seems to be at the ports, both trying to get on a ship and then onto a car transporter. I got lucky, I think.

Admann - I had been tracking and predicting which ship based on the WW schedule. I missed one boat by a day. I thought I knew which one it was going on but the day before it was scheduled to leave, my status online moved to “In Transit.” I presumed that meant that the car had been loaded on the WW ship I had thought I’d catch. I called genius to confirm and they told me it leave before on the Garnet Ace, a boat I had no idea about. Plus, as I mentioned, it’s a direct trip—not the several stops the WW boats seem to make.

Here's my updated timeline. BMW Genius says it should be at the dealer by next Saturday. That'll be just under 2 months from placing my order.

Not sure why it's spending > 1 week at NY port but I hear they may have to load iDrive updates there.

Is it just me or would anyone else pay an extra $100 for the ability to get production line pictures? Like a daily snap... you get the picture from paint, assembly, etc. Then see it leaving factory, etc., maybe tracking across the ocean?

I think BMW is missing an opportunity for some extra money and to keep some people extremely happy...

I would probably pay a little ... but in all honesty, I would love if they could attach a webcam (so to speak) that travels with the car as it makes its way along the production line. I think the plant in SC used to do this when the X3 was first released.

Yes, I would think that would be a lot more expensive vs. a few cameras at key points in the assembly process...
