Fuel sensor failed possibly

2018 540i m-sport. Only 4300kms on the ODO. Car was parked in my garage over the last few days. Outside temp today is -10C but in the garage it is usually above 0C.

Got in this morning and fuel gauge shows zero fuel and an indication that "0km left. Please refuel". I was pretty sure the tank was at least half full but for sanity check I topped it up. Right after fueling (it only fit about $20 worth), the gauge showed full for a minute but still was complaining about 0km range. And then it went down to 0 again.

Anyone had this happen? Fuel tank sensor? or maybe instrument cluster issue?

I am going to take it in of course but it literally just happened 2 hours ago so I still have to wait for the appt and such. Highly disappointing only 4k and things are already falling apart. I really hope its not going to become a trend.
