Power Supply
Hello all,
I have just received my Powermax 100 Amp Power Supply. I am in NYC, so very limited in space and electrical outlets that are close enough so I need to add an extension cord. I could imagine that I have to get a specific extension cord, any suggestions? I would try the extension cords I have but I want to confirm if there would be a power loss of any kind. Thank you |

I can’t imagine there is any extension cord on the market that could handle 100A of current. Sounds like you need a different solution.

I stand corrected. The 60A breaker line I had run in my house for my EV charger from the basement panel to the garage used 2AWG wire and it quite thick and large. I expected an extension cord to need to be even larger to deal with 100A. I guess there are other options.

OP, if you look on Generac's website they have pre-made different length cable runs. Might be worth looking into. In my state (NH)) you have to have a breakout box with something this powerful so the Fire Dept can disconnect in case of Emergency. So check your town/city code on that too.

Check the spec sheet for the Power Supply. It will probably show the Maximum AC input at ~13 amps. Standard house outlets are 15 - 20 amps so you shouldn't need an actual 100 amp cord.
