Parking brake release rough

Recently DIY'd a partial brake job on the rear axle. I entered diagnostic mode and used bimmercode to put the parking brake into a service mode. After installing the pads I deactivated the service mode, but the first attempt at exiting service mode failed. The second time it worked.

However, the is a harsh release of the brake now. Almost a click and then a kind of echo or reverberation although slight through the car as well as seemingly being under a lot of torque. Meaning release tends to

Anyone have any ideas on this? I did try to both activate and deactivate service mode again but didn't appear to resolve anything.

Thanks.
