OEM 19" all-seasons on M550i - how bad are they?

Hello everyone!

A few months ago I ordered a brand new 2022 M550i. Recently I realized that my CA selected all-season tires even though I wanted summer performance tires. The car is in production now, so I can't change the order anymore. I could walk away from the deal if I wanted to, but it seems silly to do it just because of the tires, especially considering how ridiculously long the new vehicle waiting time is these days. Being permanently limited to 130 mph is a bummer, but I can live with it, I guess.

My question is, how bad are all-season tires on M550i? Am I totally screwed now? Do they even come in a staggered setup? I think I saw some other thread where people said that older model years had square setup but 2022 comes staggered even with all-season tires. Is it true? Is there anyone from the US here who got their 2022 M550i with staggered all-season tires? Is the MY2022 all-season wheel setup still suitable for any kind of spirited driving? How is cornering at higher speeds? How is braking? Can I still do launch control, or maybe I would just end up spinning donuts if I tried that? Will the sub-par traction basically force me to drive the car the way I would drive a family minivan?

My '22 M550 came with 19" all season Continentals, 245/40-19 front and 275/35-19 rear. I just ran 11.6 @123 and didn't spin at all. Forward traction is not an issue at all on dry pavement.

I don't care about maximum handling grip but they are H rated touring tires....not high performance tires.
If you are looking for maximum handling, you might not like them.

I have the Pirelli all seasons. They're fine. Just like Bruce, clicking off 11.6s 1/4 miles and 1.8s 60 foots. Not even a hint of losing grip. I actually pushed them very hard at speed doing some spirited cornering and was kind of surprised how well they did. They do come in staggered sizes. They are very quiet and the car is like driving on air. With respect to you permanently being limited to 130 miles an hour, you're not. You can Make that adjustment in idrive to increase it.

I have conti DWS06+ tires and love them. Not exactly swinging my 4500lb pig around hairpins at speed.

I have a 2023 M550i on order and should be delivered within the next three days. Unfortunately I ordered it with the 19" all season run flats. I've since educated my self on the lack of ride comfort of run flats. The other issue is that my selection limits me to a lower top speed limit. You say you can change this in iDrive. How? I thought this was hard coded into the DME. Please enlighten me.

I have no idea how (or if) you can change the speed limiter in iDrive. I am not aware of a way to do that.

Did you test drive an M550 on run flats to determine ride quality? I think the brand of run flat tires make a difference in ride quality. Based on some of the posts I have seen, I think the lack of ride comfort with run-flats is exaggerated. My car came with Continental run-flats and the ride is very smooth, quiet and surprisingly soft.

My question about resetting the speed limiter in iDrive was directed to 2022M550i. He mentioned that it could be reset in iDrive.

Yes, I have driven several 2022 5 Series with both run flats and non run flats. I find that the run flats are more harsh.

I suspect that if you go into the tire settings/TPMS and change the tires to something high performance, that might change your limit (as well as the expected pressures). It's going to be difficult to test though...

Conti’s are great. I wouldn’t trade them for summers. The car has so much performance that summer tires won’t get you much more unless you are racing, which then I’d say get proper racing tires. So no loss in my opinion. Plus they are run flat and the M550 has a habit of cracking tires.. I’ve had two go already in 3 years due to pot holes.… I just dove to where I need to get and be safe and it didn’t damage the rim in either case.

Additionally, you need the all weathers in Seatle. Performance are dangerous in cold weather.

My car also came with the A/S Continentals in 19", which are OK so far. However, I was researching them (trying to see just what they are, exactly) and had to search on the MOE designation as well.

Turns out that it means Mercedes Original Equipment, as MB specified a slightly better/more comfortable ride than a standard RFT provides, which means that these are technically not run-flat tires.

So, that's a little misleading. I think the actual term is "extended mobility" which in non-lawyer-speak means "you may be able to go a little bit further once they run out of air". Or, in layman's terms, you'll be SOL.

I'm going to have to buy that spare tire kit now.
