Unhappy Weird XM satellite Issue - (Activating XM)

(as evidenced by a number of posts ).

I got a 2018 530e about a month ago and have been digging into in piece by piece.

The car has XM, I called them up to activate and was told that the radio was "Blocked and would cost $15 to unblock, and I can only subscribe to a $21.99/month package"

Ok, that is strange, I have had XM on multiple cars (purchased new, purchased CPO, purchased third party used) and have never come across this, always been able to take advantage of their ongoing promotions (in fact I had called first to cancel my subscription on my 2020 QX60 because I sold it and was initially offered to transfer it to my "new car".

Any ideas / thoughts?????

When I got my G30 they also wanted to change me this crazy 'transfer' fee. I said I'm going to cancel and they waived it.

As for special deal I was able to keep the plan I had from my previous car.

That’s frustrating. Seems you’ll have to do a dance with them to sort it out. Most dealers are in their dealer program since it is free for dealers (and they probably get a kickback of some kind) which would automatically put it into “trial” mode when you drive off.

But when I got my 530e it was a crazy smooth experience with Sirius. Was able to activate my new trial on the car while transferring my time from my old car. Was surprisingly smooth since I annually need to do a dance with them on renewal fees.

SiriusXM is annoying in terms of how they do business. They literally charge different prices for the same things depending on the gullibility of the buyer.

I do the dance every year on three cars. It's going to "renew" at some crazy rate. I put a reminder on my phone to remind me the week before. Then I use the chat feature for customer service and tell them I am going to cancel if I can't get the same deal I had. They say sure but next year it is going to renew at the standard non-promotional rate and then we do this again the next year.

Chat with them, don't call. It is easier and you won't have to translate the broken English. Get them to waive that $15 bucks too. They will.

So there is an update....

Today I get an email from XM saying "thank your for your recent dealer service, please click below to activate your 90 day trial". Clicked the link and I have 90 days free trial.

I am guessing the dealer service updated owner info and showed new owner and that kicked XM to try and get me on board..

Go figure

that's basically my plan for this year.
it is aggravating to have to do this nonsense every year though.
reminds me of the cable company..
