You could try applying power to the jump connections under the hood. If that does not work, you'll have to go through the back seat. Remove the back seat-If you do not have a pass through behind the center armrest or fold down seats.

You won’t have to remove the backseat if you have split fold down seats. Just pull the passenger side down, crawl in the trunk and pull the rip cord in the back corner near the passenger tail light. It has an oval handle on it.

Joe, can you actually pull the split back seats open from inside the cabin? I thought you had to use the release handles in the trunk. Never tried it from the back seat but maybe I will just for my own knowledge. --Bob

Ditto clegg…just pop the hood and connect jumper cables or a battery charger to the dedicated jump start locations that are outlined in the owners manual.

If you kept the BST intact and didn’t completely disconnect it from the positive battery cable in the trunk…you should still have power once you connect to the terminals in the engine bay. You can then use your remote or the interior trunk release button to open the trunk.

You know Bob, I’ve never pulled down my backseats in the G30. I know they pull down from the inside on my E39. I may be mistaken.

I made the same mistake as op in the past and did what Joe suggested. Both of you are right. You have to use the release handles. But you can pop open the center pass through in order to access them. Took a bit of contortion. Wish I’d asked here first…though it only took a few annoying minutes to rectify.

You would just have to apply 12 volt power from another car or battery charger and you would don't need a specific BMW battery.

And as Q mentioned use your remote fob or trunk button inside the car.

Thanks--that makes sense. But I would bet the contortions are quite entertaining--at least they would be for me! --Bob

Just for the record...there's no need for any contortion if you use the jump start terminals in the engine bay and a supply of 12 volts. This could be from your new "replacement" battery & jumper cables, another vehicle connected with jumper cables...or a battery charger connected to the jump start terminals in the engine bay.

If you don't have another 12 volt power source...then contort to your heart's content trying to reach the rear seat release levers through the pass-through.
