Guibo... Giubo? Flex disk needs replacing at 23k

I took my 2020 540i to an indy shop for an oil change this morning (Pennzoil Euro L 5W30, in case you were wondering) and they said my rear flex disk is cracked and starting to split. $600 to replace.

I realize that this is a common issue with these cars, but I was hoping not to have to replace it so soon. I have a Stage 1 E30 tune, but I don't thrash it. Much.

Has anyone else here had theirs crack this soon?

I guess I'll have this to look forward to soon enough as I like my jack-rabbit starts at traffic lights a bit too much. If that is $600 at an indy shop, I wonder what the stealership is gonna want, and if my Platinum ESC will cover.

I did mine at 60k . Most likely not going to be covered as it is considered a maintenance item.

The disc is a known weak point.

You tuned your car, which means more torque is being pushed through the driveline. I don't see why this is surprising.

You might want to be aware that BMW also recommends upgrading the torque converter for the ZF unit when tuned (see instructions and materials in the M-Performance power and sound kit).

Dealer quoted me $1200 to replace guibo on my 2020. Definitely taking to a trusted indy shop since this is not a warranty replacement.

Mine was showing stress fractures at around those miles, per the dealer. So they replaced it. They could have been looking really hard for it because it’s easy warranty work and common. I think the tech gets paid 4 hours and can do it in an hour.

Does anyone know of an upgrade for this part? I did a quick search and didn't turn anything up.

It seems odd that we have upgraded parts available for almost everything except the part that fails most often.

There is another thread on this with a direct link to an aftermarket part that is supposed to be more durable. 430Scud provided information on it in that thread. If you search on him, it is fairly recent.

Thanks, I had just come here to ask about this.

However, the only part that I could find on Meyle's site for my car shows the position as Front.

https://www.meyle.com/en/service-cen...ine-catalogue/

(this is a link to their online catalog; there's no way to link directly to the page for this part)

It seems odd to me that since the rear guibo is the one that fails most often, the only upgraded part they have is for the front.

I would suggest is get the oem BMW part number for the rear guibo and enter it at a number of Meyle retailers like FCP Euro, Bimmerworld, etc and you should be able to turn up the Meyle part. But it could very well be only the front is currently available.

Mine was replaced two weeks ago (50K mi) $900 Canadian. All covered under warranty though.
