I have a '21 LCI M550i on order and I'm not in love with the generic BMW shifter. I don't want to install the M Shifter as it's not an M car. I also saw that the M shifter creates an issue getting into Sport +
Has anybody looked at the G20 or M850i shifter? I think they are both better that the G30 setup. I think the M850i would be the closest contender as it has the same transmission, engine, etc. Just to clarify, I am speaking on the shifter mechanism, not the entire console

Pretty sure it can’t be done. On the newer models like the G20, the shifter assembly is actually integrated into the control panel with the buttons and cannot be separated. Even if you detach the knob, you most likely couldn’t attach it to the G30 shifter assembly since the knobs attach differently just from looking at the parts diagrams.

X5 glass shift knob looks really cool. It throws a hell of a glare and is bumpy in the hand especially if you rest your hand on it. The glass control knob is nice too, but even worse reflection...
The one in the 5 doesn't look nearly as good but it does feel better in the hand. Form over function? The most annoying thing by far for me jumping between the X5 and 5 is the location of the Start/Stop button and parking button, but that's a whole separate issue altogether. |

Good point on both. I'm coming from a GT2 Stinger, with the best feeling shifter I've ever owned. One of the small items, and probably the only one I'll miss.
I prefer the lower, flatter shifters where I can rest my hand on.
