Speed Trap Warning
Has anyone else seen the speed trap warning on the HUD? It popped up the other day and I was curious because I don't remember ever reading that it was an option. I'm located in ATL (USA)
I did find this information online this afternoon: https://thecargossip.com/2020/11/08/...iption-option/ |

I paid $25 via BMW Connected Store for the subscription in my 2020, but have not gotten an alert. Funny thing is I drove past an intersection where one had been for over 10 years and was surprised when it didn't alert. When I came back and it didn't alert again, I realized the camera had been removed and just the pole remained. I don't recall with what vehicles it comes standard.

I newly subscribed to the service recently on my 2020 (pretty sure it rolled out after I picked up my car in February, so it may be included in the complimentary set of features for newer sales.)
The alerts do seem to be accurate, having driven in downtown Chicago recently, where you may not know what the innocuous-sounding "Safety Zone" signage means until you get a warning/ticket in the mail otherwise. Only issue I have is the alerts appearing inconsistently (sometimes they're in the HUD, sometimes they're just in the main instrument display.) Wherever they decide to appear, it's visually distinct enough to always get my attention at least. |

Even if we could get this to work in the U.K., it would be going off so frequently as we have a large number of speed cameras and an increasing number of average speed cameras as well.
In the EU here we have the prospect of speed limiters coming in in the next few years. I think initially they will allow to be turned off ( a bit like ASS) but afterwards that option will be removed. Speed limiting will be governed by the tech already in the car namely the say about database and cameras reading the signs. |

the US doesn't use a lot fix location though, how does it detect laser and radar, is there already something built in the car?

Basically it is a nice supplemental bit of information to have, along with a V1 Gen 2... |

So static location only then or I guess state trooper usually sits roughly same location? If it's static update hard to see how it beats stuff crowd sourced like Waze

It has gone off for me a couple times on the Ohio Turnpike, which are false readings, as there are no red light cameras or speed cameras on the Turnpike. Don’t trust it now and will stick to Waze.

Mine only shows up on the instrument panel not hud. I would like the red camera and speed camera info in the hud. I read about refreshing the app or maybe doing a restart.
How do I refresh apps ? And how do you do a restart and does that effect anything saved ? Thanks |

For your other question. You can refresh app by going to the Apps section and while the menu is open on the left to pick Apps or Services and etc hit option then “Update Apps & Services”. |

I now have my car for close to two months, and I drive the same route everyday to and from the office. About a month ago, the speed trap alert started showing up in my HUD at the most random place on my route where there is zero possibility of a speed camera. It did so intermittently for a few days now it doesn't. I think the its dodgy to say the least.

Crowd sourced alerts. Same way JBV1 and other apps reports them. I run JBV1 and it works very well. Probably more data sources than BMW will ever sign up for.

No. Needs iDrive 7. 2020+. If you're an Android user, just download JBV1 or Highway radar and configure in stand alone mode.
AFAIK Apple users are limited to Waze, Google Maps, etc.
