Low end power issue on M550i
My car is a 2019 M550i (n63tu2) and the power at every other point on the rev range is great with the exception of a standstill or rolling start. I assume it’s just the turbo lag but it seems oddly pronounced, which makes me think it might be software and thus can be tweaked. Anything that can be done about this?

I think it might be the throttle response...it's not that great on the M550i, especially from standstill.

How many miles ?
It could be a dirty throttle body. That will effect throttle response.

There are throttle boosters in the market. Not sure what the consensus is on them, and mine's stock, but something you could try if you like.
Here's one from Dinan that fits the M550i: https://shorturl.at/ceivG

Or you could pop the gear shift lever over into the S/M gate and use the sport mode mapping initiated using the gear shift lever (which is basically the transmission & engine).

I’ve definitely tried sport+ and it doesn’t really address the throttle responsiveness, which is odd.

If standing start is laggy/unresponsive for you…try tapping the gear shift lever over to the left prior to taking off to see if the unresponsiveness is diminished. You can pop the gear shift lever back into D once you get going and don’t need the sport mode anymore. You could also try the manual mode (by tapping the paddles on the steering wheel…or pressing fore/aft on the gear shift lever) to engage the manual shifting mode. Doing this will keep the transmission in the lower gears (like 1st/2nd/3rd) for as long as you like which would allow you to get more from allowing the engine to rev higher before shifting gears.

This is going to be unpopular here, but every bmw I’ve ever driven - m’s, non-m’s, 4’s, 6’s, 8’s, have felt like this compared to performance cars from competitors, with the throttle response lacking, especially Porsche which isn’t a fair fight, but even Mercedes & Audi. You have to mash the gas like you mean it, even in sport+. Manual mode should make it acceptable but still less satisfying than its peers imho.
The first bimmer I ever drove was an e92 335 around 15 years ago, and I wondered if there was something wrong with it right off the bat. That model happened to have severe turbo lag which made things worse. Since then, driven many more, similar characteristics apart from the turbo lag. It is mostly addressable in software, so it’s a deliberate choice on the part of their engineers.

The lagginess you speak of could be traction control kicking in. It can make the car feel laggy, as you found turning DSC off makes things more responsive.
Also investigate xHP as it can really help. |
