Opening Exhaust Valve

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2021 540i and I've been trying to open the exhaust flap without throwing any codes.
I've been reading around but still haven't found an answer.

Before someone says use bimmercode or bimmerlink to open flap then pull fuse, my DMT is still locked and can't be tuned yet.

This is my first bimmer so I'm still learning.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Put the trans in sport mode and once the flap opens, pull the fuse and Bob's your uncle. That's what I did. There will be a stored code, but it will not trigger a CEL.

Yeah I tried that. Whatever mode I have the car on in idle, the flap doesn't open.

IIRC, the engine has to be at operating temp. Try warming-up the engine and see if it works. Have you tried just unplugging the valve?

I believe I tried putting it into sport after engine was warm.
Haven’t tried taking out the valve clip. Wanted to see if there were other options besides tuning.

following this thread as I am curious about having mine open as well.

IF its coded to stay on, is this something that voids warranty?

You could buy a $200ish add on that is a remote valve controller. Can program garage buttons for open/closed and you can control and override it at your convenience.

Can buy the controllers to default in open, default to closed, or default to BMW OEM settings.

Have it on my m550i with a Remus system and am very happy to have the full control 100% of the time

I like this idea of using the garage door buttons as an open/close function!

What does this entail?

It’s just an install, it’s a piggyback system that slots between the OEM harness and the valves.

This is the one I have from X-PH:

https://x-ph.com/cg-precision-vsc-2-...nd-controller/

Can pick which setup you want from their drop down menu

Remove the clip that connects the actuator to the exhaust flap. Wire the exhaust flap open (There's a grove where the clip attaches that you can seat a piece of wire in, wrap that around the exhaust and you're done)

No codes, no nothing. Car still thinks it's opening and closing the flap as the actuator is still moving. It's just not connected to anything. Took me about 3 mins to do this the other day.
