Current pricing in Chicagoland area
I'm exploring the market for a new 540i x-drive with M-sport in the Chicagoland area. I've contacted several dealers, shared my factory build sheet and inquired re: their best price in % off MSRP, with no dealer add-ons and do they have allocation for a build. I've had some back and forth, with 2 (Elmhurst and Barrington) being straightforward and clear re my questions: offering pricing at MSRP, no dealer add-ons and allocation for a June/July delivery.
I realize it's hard to predict what the market will be like in the next 6-12 months. Do you think I should pull the trigger or wait it out? Based on what you've seen, is what's on the table likely the best I can expect? Seems like the typical 6-10% off MSRP on new BMWs is a something that will not come back in the next 1-2 years, or maybe ever, given how profitable they've been able to be in these new times. I've generally accepted that reality but of course it's still human nature to feel like I am getting a fair/good deal. I currently have a 2014 328x m-sport that's in great shape with ~57K miles that has given me no problems. But it's no longer under warranty and at this point I want to move into a new vehicle before I have a costly repair come up. I am also approaching my 50th b-day and had planned on a new 5 series as my reward 🙂. Any advice would be appreciated! |

My view is that the current supply chain challenges will not be worked out for at least one year and likely longer. MSRP with no markups/add-ons seems to be the new normal for what we call a "good deal".

I would look to brokers at this time ... worth the $500 fee. I just got 8% off total including BMW incentives on my P1 G30 order that goes into production next week back in early Feb 2022. He works through BMW of Reading, PA . I will take local delivery in PA, but they also offer delivery service regionally as well as car transporter delivery to your home.
All local dealers want MSRP or MSRP plus at this time. Was surprised to do so well in the current climate, especially on an order vs. dealer stock. Broker: CarQ - Quentin O'Brien qobrien.carq@gmail.com 914-481-7186 |

I would also talk to Mike Adler at Bill Jacobs BMW.
I got 4k off a CPO 540. $2k in rebates and $2k dealer discount. I probably got the $2k dealer discount since the GM at my job knows one of the sales managers at BMW of Westmont. Your car is worth way more in this market than it ever will be. I got $13k for my 2009 BMW 328 with 77k miles on it. I sold it $3k over retail. But, it was to a fellow forum member. I paid $8k for it back in 2019 when it had 67k miles. I put $2500 into it (oil pan gasket VCG etc.) Made a $2,500 profit in 3 years Last edited by Mosaud1998; 03-27-2022 at 10:38 AM.. |

The 2023 model year will start production in July. I'd favor an early production '23 vs a late production '22. Thus, at this point in the calendar I'd wait it out a few months, though you risk possible pricing increases, or changes to the way certain options might be bundled.

As far as pricing goes, I paid MSRP plus another $700 or so for some "vehicle protection plan" which covered dents and interior rips and such. I'm sure it was BS when she said she couldn't sell it without it but I wasn't going to argue, last summer, over a few hundred bucks. I'm sure within a year or two I'll see an imperfection on the seats or something and just take it in and make up the cost that way.
But I paid MSRP, no more, and had a carbon fiber spoiler installed by the dealer (if that's what you meant by "dealer options"). I don't think it's going to change from this for at least another year. |

Just wanted to follow-up to say I have agreed in principle with Bill Jacobs BMW/Mike Adler to 3% off MSRP with no dealer add-ons. Very direct and transparent discussion. I would recommend anyone in the Chicagoland area reach out to them if you're in the market. Thanks again for the reco. |

There are so many variables with leasing. What is the money factor? Some dealerships give you a better discount but also increase the MF.

I second Bill Jacobs
Hi,
I got a quote for a few thousand under MSRP from Bill Jacobs for a specific M550i build (no trade-in) in early September 2021. I placed the order, the car arrived in December, and I purchased it without any surprises. Edit: Kwaku was my salesperson and he was great. JTV Last edited by JTV; 03-29-2022 at 12:42 PM.. |
