For a 2018 with stock muffler, just do a resonator delete. It will be much less expensive than the Dinan X pipe and should be a bit louder. You should be able to find a shop to do this for less than $400. They will drop the exhaust, cut out the resonators and weld in some 409 or 304 stainless pipe.

Not sure if you already did it but there is no drone on my 2020 M550 with both resonators deleted. It’s a great result for very little expense.

I just got a shop to do this on my 2018 M550i and it sounds stock in comfort and incredible in Sport. Just found a local shop that will install my provided tips.

Did you use a Dinin resonator delete or just had a shop do it? Also any X pipe?

Just had a local shop cut them out and replace with straight pipes, no X pipe. They didn’t ask and I didn’t think to discuss it with them.

I have the Dinan X center/middle pipes using the stock muffler on a 2018. I believe the X pipe reduces the noise, compared to a simple resonator delete.

Also a before and after dyno run (Mainline hub dyno) with Stage 1 tuning showed a whopping 1hp increase with the Dinan X middle pipes.

I got more noise with the Dinan X middle pipes, but would have been louder without the X I believe.

How is the Drone in your 2018 or is there none ? With both resonators being gone how loud is the difference before and after. I just got mines 2 months and I’m still deciding on what route to go. I’ve seen people do resonator deletes but I can’t find any muffler delete videos. To sum it up what I’m looking for is that aggressive V-8 sound, but not so loud when driving in comfort. Any Suggestions?

I did a resonator delete and had an X pipe put in on my 2018. No drone and when the valves are open it is noticeably louder, pops ect. but I have a bm2 tune with burbles turned up from before the exhaust work. I will probably turn down the burbles. It sounds great and well worth the money. I have a stock muffler btw.

No drone with both resonators deleted. It’s the cheapest way to get what you described. Not loud at all unless you want it to be (stomp on the gas).

Just do a resonator delete, it is the way to go.

You got lucky, I have the same setup but get slight drone at idle. When I put my car in P and rev slightly, say 100 rpm drone subsides.

Great question. I’m not sure and at the time, didn’t think to ask. I think it’s whatever size the pipes are on the stock exhaust. These pictures aren’t great but they’re all I have.

One of the first things I do to my car. The sound is perfect for me and only paid $250. The mechanic had the biggest grin while he revved the engine and the exhaust popped. Would love to have quad tips but not paying $2k+ for an exhaust.

Where in SoCal did you get this done? I may take my car there. I am in NorCal on business and just got quoted $400. I'd rather find a $250 place...lol..
