how does lease swap work

Hey guys, I have a 2021 540i M sport which I love and since I have gotten it I don't drive much since I switched jobs and was wondering how would it work if someone was to take over my lease, I had it for 3 months now and drove 1000 miles so far. I have 15k a year and pay $799.55 a month... thank you

This guy shared his 2020/Covid timeline and process for doing a bmw lease swap on leasehackr's forums. Might not be 100%, but good starting point.

I was looking to get into a short lease recently and heard BMWFS won’t allow a transfer within 6 months of end date FYI

I looked into this a few years ago, and these are my thoughts.

1. If you transfer your lease, and the person that takes it over defaults on the terms, you are still financially liable. You should verify this with BMW FS, but that's what I remember reading.
2. Check Swapalease.com for current offers. I suspect that at $799/month your lease is not competitive. You may need to subsidize it to make it more attractive.

That's a neat color and I love those wheels. Best of luck!

1. Is not true. When you transfer your BMW lease you name is removed from the lease as if this lease never happened.
2. Probably. I paying $599 for a similarly equipped 540i xDrive but mine is 2020.

You can always advertise your car on this board but swapalease.com has a much bigger audience.

Tips for trading a lease:

- See if you can simply sell your lease for more than your current lease buyout amount to carvana.com, vroom.com, carmax.com, shift.com (west coast mainly) or algo.com (Tri-state area)
- If your buyout is higher than the offers you're receiving them move to trading the lease
- Browse swapalease.com and leasetrader.com for comparable vehicles to see how much others have listed their 540s for
- Consider adding a one-time incentive to reduce the effective monthly payment (calculated by taking the one-time incentive divided by the remaining months on the lease minus the actual lease monthly payment)
- Give both swapalease.com and leasetrader.com a call to see if they have any "Specials" going on at the moment, don't be afraid to mention that you're considering both options so they sweeten the deal
- Once your car is listed, the process typically takes 3 to 4 weeks of back and forth paperwork so be prepared to "hurry-up" and "wait"
- The transfer costs $100 application fee (non-refundable) and $400 for the transfer (refunded if application is denied) and can be paid by either party
- Ensure that you avoid putting yourself in a position where you don't have at least 1 of the 3 (Ownership/Title, Vehicle/Keys, Payment in Full) during the transaction

Reviving an older thread, I just got rid of my leased 540i using Swapalease. I saved money by choosing the one picture option, and had a lot of responses right off the bat. BMW FS was great to work with and the whole thing took only two weeks.

Did you ever end up using leasetrader or swaplease? If so, how was it and how long did it take to sell?

I have a 2021 loaded Bernina Gray 530xi (around $70k new) with about 18,000 miles on it. I get 15k a year on a 3 year lease. Payments are $599. I also have MSD’s of about $3800, which I read may be hard to recover, so that is a negative.

Think odds are good/bad on someone taking over my lease and if so how quickly would it happen?

Is it true that you can no longer sell your leased BMW to third parties, like Carvana, Vroom, etc? The only way to do it would be to buy out your lease your sell and then sell it, which would be a longer process.

BMW should have made it for go forward leases, not for ones already under contract if it is true.
