Oil catch can

Anyone have one installed on b48/B58?

Which model did you go with? How much blowby fluids are you actually collecting (per 1000km or 1000miles)?

Did you guys go with the bms solution or a generic one with a custom mount?

I just contacted the folks at BMS and Extreme Power House about the fitment of the BMS oil catch can in the 540i. Will update you all if and when I get a response.

Anyone else have experience with an oil catch can on the G30 B58?

Got a reply from Burger Motorsports on the G30 B58 oil catch can. They have looked at developing one but have declined to do so due to the limited space in the engine compartment.

Not sure they have seen a B58 in a G30 based on that. Compared to the 240, 340, and 440, our cars have a ton of extra space. Enough space that BMW can even cram in two extra cylinders and a second air intake box. I've attached a picture with the intake resonator removed.

I think it comes down to a development cost vs expected sales issue. They don't think all of us with 5 series will modify the cars. Just like Dinan not wanting to make a cold air intake for our cars.

I definitely want one of these because there was a ton of oil in my stock intake pipe when I removed it to install the FTP intake pipe.

Anyone else? I'm still emailing BMS to try to talk them into making something so being able to say that other owners would also install them would be helpful to move the needle.

If Terry decided not to, it's not gonna happen. You'll need to either look elsewhere, or develop one yourself.

OCC

Looking at all the OCCs available for the B58 engine, they use the same mounting point for the can's mount. This point doesn't exist on the G30. Any of those kits would work for our cars if we can figure out how to mount it. We already know where to mount it and how to run the lines.

Sorry to bring up an old thread....

Did anyone get a OCC setup installed on their 540i? I've been looking into this recently as a preventative measure before pushing more power etc.

I spoke with Rossrperformance recently. I was just looking at the V1 VTA kit but they said that someone had successfully fitted the OCC setup to the G30. The strut mounting bracket for the catch can has to be modified (I think its cut down to use only 1 screw where as on a 340i for example, you would use 3 screws on the strut tower.

I'm trying to find more info and pics. I will share my findings when I have them.

Most kits will fit. The issue is, as you described, the mounting points.

With the giant muffler that is connected to the air box removed, there is a lot of space. I was thinking of mocking up a bracket that will utilize the bottom bracket of that intake muffler. Similar to how MST used the rubber grommet brackets for the intake heat shield. As well as one of the bolts on the right side tower.

I just don't have the time lately and was hoping someone comes out with a prefab bracket. I'd be happy with a 3d printed if someone can do it.

Very nice, what extra parts did you need to make it work?

I just bought and received the Ross Racing B58 Gen1 Billet PCV Breather/Delete Kit (V2) with Oil Catch Can... I will adapt the bracket and fit it off the strut tower, on the intake side. The bracket is designed for the 140/240/340/440... not the 540

I'll do a more detailed write up when I fit it.
