Oooooh I'll bet that hurt!

But seriously folks, I am interested in an M Performance exhaust for my 2019 540xi but but I have a few questions that maybe some of you more knowledgeable folks could answer. First, I have not been able to get a clear idea of what is actually included in the price of the exhaust. Is it just the rear muffler, or the entire cat-back system? (I understand I will need exhaust finishers and the rear valance also). Looks to me like just the muffler from the pictures and diagrams I have been able to see. Second, is the M Performance exhaust included in the MPPSK kit or is it separate? Again, it looks to me like it is part of the MPPSK kit but BMW's descriptions leave a bit to be desired. Lastly, does anyone know if one could get the quad type exhaust finishers and if so would they work with this set up instead of the odd shaped ones? Thanks for your help! --Bob

MPE is just the muffler. And yes you need tips and M550i rear bumper trim.
MPPSK is software + torque converter + MPE. Again, you need to buy the tips and rear bumper trim along with the MPPSK

Thanks to both of you That is what I assumed but just wasn't sure. I will proceed to see about pricing. BTW does the MPE still use exhaust flaps that are closed under normal driving or are they eliminated or programmed to be open? Pics look to eliminate them. Thanks--Bob

No problem ! It eliminates it. 2 single pipes without flaps. However i dont know why some people would cut it and install them on their m performance exhaust.

Here is a video of mine.
It gets louder after a month or two.

For you who just securing the flap open all the time, it doesn't work like that.
The regular muffler, the chambering design is different than the MPE.
MPE muffler is straight through from outlet to outlet. While the stock muffler is chambered.

And in order to get MPE installed to 540i/ix, these are what you need.

- MPE
- MPE for Tips (is a MUST)
- M550 Rear Valance (is a MUST)
or
- M550 M Performance Rear Valance (is a MUST)
- M Performance Plastic Diffuser (is a MUST)
or
- M Performance CF Diffuser (is A MUST)

Oh, and after a few months, the tips will start to rattle.
I am on my second set of tips, and it still rattle.
Now, I need to dig around 1+ years of invoices to get it warrantied again.

Well after thinking about (and pricing) the MPPSK I decided to just go with the M Performance exhaust. Had it installed last week, about $2,100 total, including labor and all three parts as noted above (muffler, tips and rear valance). My impression so far is that it is definitely louder than stock and under strong throttle in Sport Plus sounds excellent, and manual shifting makes it sound even better. However, contrary to several opinions here, I find it has noticeable resonance (drone) at around 2,200-2,400 rpm under light to moderate throttle load. Especially noticeable when the transmission shifts up and the revs land in that zone at the upshift. I am particularly aware of this as for about 20 years I did a lot of research and testing on resonance in C4 ZR-1 exhaust systems. The ZR-1's LT5 engine had two specific resonance peaks, one at 1,800 and one at 3,400 rpms most noticeable under medium to light load. I have not driven enough yet to see if the B58 BMW engine has two noticeable resonance peak points but will eventually. Fairly common for engines to have two. I find that to minimize it (like with my wife in the car, lest she notice that I actually spent the money on a new exhaust), I can drive in Comfort with a light throttle and keep it under 2,400. Passed the test with her in the car last night. I notice that when idling in Comfort it has slightly softer sound than when idling in Sport, so there must be a valve involved somewhere. Anyway I will continue to enjoy it and see if I can find a solution to this. I suspect not, as taming a resonance peak usually requires something called a Helmholtz Resonator, a chamber ordinarily encased inside a muffler or center resonator. We'll see. I kept the takeoff parts just in case it becomes too much, but otherwise enjoying it so far. --Bob

Trying to separate the name.
But there is 2 parts of the diffuser. The big piece and the lower piece.
