Does leather dashboard look any different?
I've been looking for picture comparisons of the sensatec vs leather dashboard differences. Maybe it's just me, but they both look very similar at the surface, black and stitched. Is it more of a 'touch' type of thing or is it truly visually different?

I think the difference between Sensatec and leather is very small. You're probably better off getting the alcantara headliner with that money, as I think it makes a bigger difference in the look of the interior overall... just my .02.

Hm, hadn't considered that. Is the stock headliner dark colored or is it that lighter grey? I can't find any decent pictures of it.

I have the M sport package, and it comes with the black. The "luxury" (non-MSport) trim may have the grey, but I'd be lying to you if I said I know that for certain...

The alcantara would be only black from what I remember. If you want an interior colored alcantara headliner you have to usually step up to a 7 or similar trim level.

I just checked the order guide. From what I can tell you're looking at the M550, as none of the others have the leather dash as an option.
If that's the case, it has the regular, black plastic looking headliner (option 775). If you go to the alcantara, it's still black but it's option 776. Just a quick search sent me to a F10 with alcantara. It's a matter of preference. I just ordered my M550 with it, and just like you, I was also looking at the leather dash. I decided to get the alcantara as I though it would make the vehicle considerably more upscale looking vs. the dash. $10 if someone goes in your car they're not going to feel your dash, but likely will screw with your alcantara headliner. One possible issue is kids... as long as they're behaved and don't wipe their paws on it, you should be fine. https://images.app.goo.gl/eayYK628S9itDBB27 |

Thanks for looking into that, I thought the stock was black/dark too from pictures I've looked at on the 21 m550. That being said, the BMW configuration really threw me off as it definitely looks light grey (below). Weird, eh?
Edit: or is that the Anthracite Alcantara being shown by default in the photo? Last edited by Beerflakes; 11-12-2020 at 07:24 PM.. |

I had the leather dash option in my F31 and never regretted it. Elevates the interior, and was a no-brainer for me for less than $1k residualized. I would get it, but that's just me

There is a big difference between sensatec and real leather. You have to consider that you'll have the leather also on the doors cover, in the upper side. I had the sensatec on my previous G30 and now I have the leather. I really can see the difference. If you can also have the alcantara headliner it will be a great combo.

BUT...different strokes for different folks. I would only get the Sensatec dash if I got the Sensatec upholstery. At least that would match. But I am locked into the Nappa or Merino leathers. |

I kind of talked myself out of both. I thought about doing both. Part of me was like what's another N dollars but then the other part of me figured unless I actively compare it to a car with it ... I doubt I'll give it a second thought or care. I don't doubt the dash and headliner both look better but personally decided against it for that reason.

In my opinion, the leather dash is a must. I think it looks cheap and immediately noticeable to have a mismatch between the smooth Nappa leather seats and the pebbled finish on the sensa-tec.
I regret skipping the alcantera headliner, but if you're choosing between one or the other I think the leather dash is more visual impact than the headliner. [IMG][/IMG] |

I couldn't disagree more. The leather dash is Nappa and looks great. The Sensatec looks like the relatively crappy Dakota.
